With the rain that came and melted 10 inches of snow into frozen ground I got a lot of water in the basement. Now I have to go knockout drywall and get it to the trash. What's annoying is when people say how much fun demo is. These idiots think that it's just smashing a hammer through drywall. Well if you've ever carried a few rooms of lathe and plaster down 3 or 4 flights of stairs and out to the trash then you know how much fun it really is. Oh, then I get to smash up the floor and pay a couple grand to install a back-flow valve.

Grump: this cold, or flu, or whatever it is that put me down Monday night. Between the fever, clogged sinuses, headache, fatigue, all-over aches and pains, and constant mouth breathing, I haven't ridden my bike since MONDAY. Plus the weather has been incredible, blue skies and 70 degrees and I'm stuck inside like a sick dog. Lame.

On the last leg of the trip home last night Karen and I are sitting in the airport and some application programmers behind me are working on design and one mentions that the customer has a need to attach a file and that might be tough but they'll just "store it on the server somewhere, I'll call Don in the morning and he'll solution that out". No wonder I'm making a sysprog career out of getting clusters like that to actually function. How 'bout you design a system that doesn't require you to Bondo a bag to a wart you fuckwit? Not likely considering you can't speak English, your native tongue.

    Dog-related rant:

I get it, Pookie likes to roam and you're an obese, sedentary individual. You think your retractable leash is just the bee's knees, as it allows you to stand in place while your dog runs around a public sidewalk. Invariably, your poorly-socialized little terrier/maltese/puggle/whatever decides that it needs to charge over, come sniff my dog, jump at him, and generally piss him off. Now your 30 ft. cordura leash is wrapped around me, my dog, that tree, and maybe even you and your dog. At this point you're terrified that Pookie is going to run in to the street, so you've got a death grip on the handle while you now attempt to retract the leash, only making matters worse. Now it's MY job to figure out how to untangle this mess and keep anyone or anydog from becoming injured.

I've personally been clotheslined on the bike by someone who allowed their dog to stray across two lanes of traffic with one of these things, and on another occasion have while riding my bike run over a dog on a retractable leash that darted from a sidewalk, into the roadway, and across my path before I could react. Fortunately both dogs were OK.

These things should be banned by the CPSC.

EddieB - There is a woman who drives to my remote mountain dirt road, lets her two german shepherds out then drives behind them while they run... They chased Laura, barking and growling. The woman swore they aren't aggressive and apologized. Thanks, I guess?

Major grumps to those who own dogs but don't understand that they need structure and discipline in order to coexist with humans.

Belgian railways. We booked a roundtrip from Paris to Liege last night. This morning I looked at the email receipt and saw the return trip is from Brussels to Paris. WTF? The tickets are non-refundable and the only recourse is a phone call to Belgium.

When my panicked wife finally gets through, the nice lady on the other end tells her to look in the box halfway down the pdf of the ticket. “See where it says “NO FLEX – No Exchange/No Refund”? Right under that is says “+ Any Belgian Station”. You can take a train from any station in Belgium to Brussels. It’s included!”

Well, how could we have missed that? Grrrrr.
    GO!

Joe, sounds like some sort of modern-day, redneck take on foxhunting.

    Another dog rant:

Yes, that's my dog in the car parked out front. Yes, I know it's 30 degrees outside - the car is very thermal, it's probably about 65 degrees inside. It's not as though the car is hermetically sealed ("he might suffocate" you claim), but yes, we did leave a window cracked so he can get some fresh air. He's going to be fine for 30 minutes while I get my coffee and a breakfast wrap. We purchased a wagon for the very reason that we could lay the back seats down and he could have plenty of space to stretch out. We've laid down a blanket for insulation. He has his bed back there to lay down on. We could have checked him in to a kennel for the weekend, where he would be confined to a concrete run 23 hours a day and forced to live with his own excrement until someone comes and cleans up, and tust me, he's much happier here with us.

This is probably the most doted on dog that I personally know. We've driven him to Chicago, 'cross Worlds, and Montreal so that he can join in the adventure and he's not left behind. He gets sent to Vermont with his grandparents for a week every summer so that he can spend his days swimming in a pond, frolicking around meadows, and taking extended naps in the grass soaking up the sun. His "weekend pen" is the back of a fucking Germany luxury wagon. I am not, as you claim "mistreating my dog" by reason of the simple fact that he's been left in the back of a car for a little while. He wouldn't be there if it was -15 degrees outside, nor if it were 100.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. Last time someone took me to task on this was in October. We stopped for lunch in Highland Park and left the dog(s) in the car. Know why they were in the car? Because we were hungry, after driving them up to Fort Sheridan and running them around like mad men in the prairie and lake. Mine, at least, was happy as a pig in sh1t, and used the downtime to take a nap in the back of the car. It's not like I load my pup into the car for a full day of errands. If she's in my car, it's 99% of the time because I took her somewhere fun, and 1% because we gotta go to the vet.

Boss- sorry to agree with someone else's grump. It hadn't been bothering ME today until Eddie brought it up.

Surprisingly, my wife was more upset about this than I was. I've just been watching Danny Amendola highlights on Youtube.

So in these Danny Amendola highlights, is he making catches or getting injured. There should be about a 50/50 split between the two.
