    Default Saddles for adolescents

I bought my 13 year old son a road bike. He's a little over 5' tall and his bike is a 51. I need to get him another saddle along with some cycling shorts so he can comfortably ride longer as his fitness builds. I was thinking of buying him a woman's saddle, shorter in length, a little wider in the back, and to try to find one without anything girly on it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Bill, my kids all rode at that age. None liked saddles I liked. Shorter/wider was not the answer, but softer was. I found these Kona Ti-railed saddles that they loved, narrow but soft. And plastic scuff guards were key, what with all the crashing and the dropping of the bikes.

What makes you think a woman saddle would fit better ?

When I was this age I was just switching from a Turbo to a Selle Italia Flite (but was using a 54 frame though). Haven't switched to another model since.

My daughter is about 5' 3" or so.

Her DeRosa has a Regal on it, she likes it.

Got him a Ritchey womans saddle. I used a sharpie to black out Lady. He likes it so far.
