We can discuss social implications of Honey Boo Boo, The Real Housewives of Somewhere crass and the kardashians on the American youth. You will soon long for the good ole days of Lance bashing.

It may not be the weight loss plan for everyone, but it worked so perfect for me. Lemme see - you lost 80 pounds by cutting out alcohol? What were you drinking before, a case a day? I lost almost 40 pounds this year without cutting out my evening beer. Just couldn't bring myself to do it. I did drink just water one night at a poker game. Guys thought I was nuts. (Didn't help me game either.) Anyway, good for you on the weight loss.

Re: Help losing 20 lbs
I guess it's time I posted in this thread.
I've always been chubby...even as a kid. I was always athletic so I've always been "fast for a fat guy." This year I decided to give up soccer/rugby and focus on my cycling and eating. Here is my last big dinner (at the world's best restaurant) in Okinawa.

Yeah...that's me on the right.
Here's a pic of me testing out the new fork upgrade on my beater bike

And here's me a month ago wearing the same vest as the first picture.

As of last week I've lost exactly 40lbs which puts me at 255. My goal is to get to 190...I don't really see it happening but I'm sure going to try.
Insubordinate. And Churlish.

Congrats on the weight loss to date. Of course it's going to happen. You can be 190 by January 1, 2014. It took me 2 years to lose the 40 lbs I wanted off. Just keep after it. Be relentless.

if you lost 80 pounds by doing nothing but removing alcohol from your diet, it's more like bye,bye alcoholism. yikes.

Re: Help losing 20 lbs
142/6.7, hopefully I'll get in a couple of long rides this weekend.

Re: Help losing 20 lbs
Even though I got in 4 hrs yesterday, I'm at 143/5.7....it's called having the kids over for pizza and brownies.

not quite as "yikes" as you make it out to be. i had become depressed, and sedentary for about 10 years, just wasn't "feeling it". alcohol didnt help.

i lived in Northern Wisco, we drank a bunch. everyone does. it was a 10 year, down hill slide, of everything perpetuating into me gaining a ton of weight. But yep, i removed booze, started riding my bike again, doing things i loved, etc. pounds fell off.

i guess i didn't make it too clear. i wasn't riding my bike 200 miles a week when i weighed 232lbs. cutting alcohol from my life meant more energy, more drive, more focus. and more cycling. i went back to doing the things i love, everyday, and I lost 80lbs. but i never stopped eating anything or went on "a diet". except for booze. i wasn't "living healthy" before. I am now.

Dude, I am right with you, down 50 from 260, but wanting 190 for the season. I will not be a regular here for a bit as I am off to India. I'll check in upon return.

Going to India to drop weight is cheating.

I have a plan to meet with a group of Ultracyclists in Pune and ride north. Yes, it is cheating, but there is no official test for it yet so...
