Check out the Summer 2012 issue of Overland Journal to see a good writeup of a nicely restored/improved FJ40. Fiberglass body, turbodiesel motor, new locking diff, and many other enhancements while still keeping the traditional "Toolbox-On-Wheels" look and character of the original.

Much as I love the old FJ...I really want the current "real" LandCruiser that the rest of the world gets...not the lame soccer-mom tank that the marquee' is used for stateside. A LandCruiser just flat-out kicks everthing else's ass..and I say that as a Jeep/LR kind of guy..

Icons are nuts. That will be the next phone call I make (after getting in the queue of half the builders on this forum) when I hit the lotto.

Drove my dads '68 FJ to get some beer this afternoon. What a tank.
When he retires, my bro and I are going to buy it off him. I told my brother I'd put up 55% of the cash for a 50% stake as long as he drives it back to Chicago from jersey.

I am strangely excited about this $60, three element, fixed cap-lens: "F8 and be there." Can't wait to see what kind of flare I get . . .

I didn't know this was coming. I want this. The Panasonic 20mm pancake lens for M4/3 is my favorite lens. possibly ever.

I saw that Saab on eBay. Not exactly stock...

Learned to drive on the wagon version. 4 on the tree.

This is also on the bay. I want it. It has mistake written all over it. Like some kind of French Mystery Machine.

That would be pretty baller to roll up to a cross race with. Maybe a little Rapha-esque.

This, on the other hand, is the CX-vehicle equivalent of steel toed Redwings:

Rapha-esque is a good description. That Land Rover is pretty badass. You would take that over a Unimog or a Pinzgauer?

Totally, that lens is part of the reason I am thinking 4/3 for my next camera.

I think I'd prefer a Pinzgauer- the right blend of utility and not overly tanklike.
The owner of my favorite restaurant used to have a Unimog which he built into a portable kitchen; it was a beast.

re: cameras: I think when I replace my Canon G10 it'll be with a Micro 4/3, but every time I start to research, my eyes glaze over. They seem to be advancing extremely quickly these days.

Well, yes and no. There are a TON of different cameras, partly because there are bunches of old ones still in inventory. This guide is a helpful way of looking at it. Or just buy an OM-D like Billrick has and be done with it. I may be rejoining team M4/3rds soon, since the X100 has held its value so well. I miss being able to use a tele every once and a while.

My f8 cap-lens is on order. Expected delivery in November. Just realized that I'll be turning my OM-D into a $1,000 Holga. Nice!

On another note, my wife just read about EMP and the crash of civilization. She said that she wants me to buy a diesel Defender 110 for my next car. Love that woman. (And thanks, Newt!)

I read the US is getting a Defender in mid 2013. Any truth in that. I almost pulled the trigger on one in the late 90's (if I had the dough at the time). They are so sweet looking.

Blow up and pin a picture of M. Bartoli on your wall. When you achieve that position, stop. Until then, stretch, ride, stretch, ride, eat less, and ride more.
