Default Any good IPA in Boston?

I'll be visiting my old favorite city next week and was hoping to have better luck finding a decent pint on draught than last time. It seemed that all we could find was Harpoon, Guiness and Sam. That was a great selection when I was 24 but now I prefer a nice, hoppy mouthgasm. I know there is great stuff to be had in bottles "back East" but do any pubs in Jamaica Plain have them, or Harvard etc.. (that's where I'll be.) Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry if I offended any wussy beer drinkers.

I echo your concerns when in St. Louis--a great city, but dominated by Bud.

I live in jp and can recommend veevee as a restaurant with a nice beer list and canary square as a bar/restaurant with a lot of good drafts. Outdoor seating at canary square is nice too. Let me know if you want a companion when drinking in jp. There are some good options in Brookline if you have a car and plenty of choices in Harvard area, but I will let those from that side of the river make recommendations.

Sure. Just head over to Apex or Horse Brass....oh wait. Never mind. I'll keep your stool warm for you while you're gone.

Sounds great, I'd love to grab a pint. I went to a pub back when I was at Mass. Art called the Brendan Bean, Still there? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Guiness and dry Irish stout, and I've got big spot in my heart (and liver) for Sam Adams and Harpoon. My Brother lives right off the Green line.. Not sure of the stop though.. I'll be there Aug 12- 16th.

    Behan. Brendan Behan.

Go to Redbones in Davis Sq. or Sunset Grille in Allston for wide beer selections including lots of local/regional IPAs.

Also in Allston, stop by IBC and say hi to the jerk, then hit the White Horse Tavern across the street.

No really, check out Deep Ellum right around the corner. Last time I was there I was really impressed with the beer list.

Deep Ellum - draft beer, cask beer, classic cocktails, restaurant - 477 cambridge street, allston, ma 02134

Deep Ellum has a great, eclectic selection.

This might help: HONEST PINT: MAPPED: MASSACHUSETTS BREWERIES | DigBoston I know, it's breweries. But there should be some pubs in there too. More & more restaurants are devoting as much attention to their beer lists as to wine. It's nice to see.

And I'm free for a local beer or two.
    GO!

Yes, the Behan is still there, and that is right down the street from me. Definitely go to Redbones...if you need to purge your system. Their food is inedible.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm looking forward to my trip. My GF is one of those vegetarians so I'll have to skip the Redbones..

dude, Boston has come a long way. Deep Ellum is a good bet. There's two newish places in Cambridge that are pretty great: Lord Hobo and Meadhall. Both have a bunch of fine beers on tap, and LH has great food.

When I'm back there I get my hops fix from Flower Power and Smuttynose IPA. Last time in Boston there was an IPA from a new brewery called Blatant that was really good, and pretty common on tap in the better beer places. And anything from Pretty Things is usually interesting.

My buddy and I tracked down Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA in Boston last November. Wicked good.

Well now I'm in Elmira NY (20 year HS reunion) and I quaffed a Souther tier IPA the other day which was pretty tasty. Nice to be back East. I secretly wish I could move back sometimes and leave the glamorous PDX lifestyle behind.
