Default summer time = ice cream

Musgrave Mafia favorite here...Avocado Ice Cream. Sounds weird but really is good - honest.

    1 can evaporated milk
    1 cup mashed avocado
1/2 cup sugar (I use a bit less - start there though)
    2/3 cup pineapple juice
    pinch salt
    2 Tbsp lemon juice
    1/2 cup whole milk

I toss it in the Vitamix for a min then pour into pan to freeze overnight. Have never tried freezing it with a real ice cream maker, need to do that sometime.

    Home-made is a step up.

I like french style, make a custard. Go crazy from there.

Sidenote, but also really yummy and easy to make in the summer:
    1 avocado
    1 large glass of water
1 lime (or 1/2 depending on taste)
    1-2 tbsp. cane sugar

Throw it all in the blender and voila, fantastic summer drink. Great for left over avocados.

    Fail.

    You forgot vodka.

Honestly Jason, you are very good with nutrition. Raise the bar ok? Keep em' coming. I love my vitamix, 10 yrs. old and going strong.

I've been on a huge frozen yogurt kick. But that actually sounds delicious Jason.

No such thing as a left over avocado in Casa Musgrave... Looks great though, will give it a shot.

Have a weak spot for good home-brewed ice cream. Somebody hit me up with some recipes.

p.s. frozen this way it's best to let it sit out ~20 minutes before serving.

this is a good Sweet Cream Base for most flavors:
    1.5 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
    1.5 cups Half & Half
    5 egg yolks
    0.5 cup sugar
    big squirt of lemmon juice
    big splash of vannila
this is the base, add flavor/fruit etc to this

We just picked up a Whynter ice cream maker, that has an integrated compressor. Freezer hard ice cream in about 45 minutes.
You can get'em for around $250 shipped, I highly recomend the Whynter14LS model.

I've substituted almond milk for up to 80% of the cream with excellent results.

    Too damn much fun.

+1. Mine is 13 years old and still used daily.
This morning's breakfast was a vitamix smoothie:
1 banana, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 cup OJ, couple handfuls of baby spinach leaves, 1 teaspoon spirulina powder, small scoop generic protein powder, 3 spoons yogurt, and a few ice cubes.
    Love it.

i burned up a vitamix and love my blend-tec.

but get her the one she wants and get the right COLOR (blend-tec has colors), hell either one is cheaper than a suspension fork.

full disclosure-the vitamix was used offa the 'bay. the blend-tec was new offa the 'bay. either one are absolute marvels, and about the only "modern" convenience i use in the kitchen besides a microwave. (well that and the air-popper for coffee roasting.)

    back to the recipes
