I’m still daydreaming about our Netherlands trip last October. Spain and Portugal are on the to-do list.

Gran Via - where's the crowds?![]()
Just raided the ALDI’s next door (cash only as the cards aren’t working) for dinner and I’m checking the web to see wtf happened this afternoon. Pretty crazy as the power went out about 1pm local time and areas were sketchy until 6-7pm, at least where we are in Barcelona. Traffic nightmare if you were on a bus, in a car or on a MC. We were just on foot at Park Güell checking out Mr. Gaudi’s work after spending the morning at La Sagrada Familia when things went to $hit…cell phones out, traffic signals out, web out, State Department notices and all of the mom and pop cafes, bars, shops and restaurants essentially had to close. First world problem for me and Mrs. RW for sure, but tough for the working folks.

Seems like the governments in Spain and Portugal send out all their alerts and information notices through Twitter. Which doesn't work at all when the power is out everywhere. They are saying that it doesn't seem like bad guys did it. I am going to guess a surge on the grid hammered something viewed by the utility as so insignificant (or expensive) that it was not redundant. Or someone tripped over an extension cord. One of those two.
Enjoy the weather!
…can’t embed images for some reason, but all seems to be back up and running in Catalonia.

Park Güell and Palau Güell are definitely on the list when my wife and I go to Spain. From the pictures I’ve seen and the descriptions in the About Buildings & Cities podcast, I’m anticipating a good chunk of time for that visit.
