Similar to previous front yard cactus flowers I've posted but this is a different variety, may be a hybrid, the entire flower is around 8" diameter. In my limited experience cactus flowers last 2 days max.

The Monarchs are fattening up on the asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed…a species of milkweed), which I can’t figure, as there’s an abundance of good old original milkweed in the upper garden. The swamp milkweed is next to bloom, so let’s who prefers that leaf.

"As this is an Australian pic, are they rats or some type of marsupial?"
Plain old Ratus ratus - 100% vermin....... not even the nicer Norway rats. We don't poison them, try to live and let live where possible on our 6 acres
