Anybody see this? 2002 with a Honda S2000 engine swap? Sacrilege and not my style with the shaved doors, etc but hoo boy I bet it's fun.

No. Only early preorderers were given the IPO offer. I have never speculated on stocks before but I opened a SoFi account because they were being given some of those $78 IPO shares. SoFi and/or Rivian botched that up and effectively no notice was given to buy the shares. There were enough complaints that SoFi put a banner notification up in the app apologizing. I did end up buying some. I hope that it does well enough to make the R1T something I can actually afford.
Talk me out of this?!

Do it. If not the RestoMod, any one of the many Minis that pop up here and there.
It is a rabbit hole. I went into the hole about 5 months ago. It is a boatload of fun. Such great little cars. Although I would look at the 1275 A+ engine over the 1000cc. But that’s just a start of almost unlimited things you can do. DO IT. You will NOT regret it ATMO.

I haven’t convinced my wife that a restomod mini is right for us, so you’ll need to do this.
I am inching my way there. BTW, The 1L engine used for this swap is a modern Ford 3 cylinder Ecoboost. A bit of a poor man's Singer...improved power, emissions, mpg.
Saw a blue Rivian truck up close in DC today and I swooned.
Amazing looking vehicle.

I have been seeing lots of Rivians on the road lately. I am not a car guy, to me they are just transportation. So I have even thought of spending that much on a car, but I am intrigued.
I am genuinely curious about electric vehicles… but also genuinely concerned about the power grid, as well as the effects of manufacturing and disposal of lithium batteries. It is easy to market (pander?) to the zero emissions concept, but that simply cannot be true. There is no perpetual motion machine. Is there a comparison somewhere of the full lifecycle of gas vs electric vs hybrid?
Hybrid makes a lot more sense to me, but I am not a smart guy…
Re power grid… think about how much gas moves through the pipeline that runs from NOLA up through the east coast. Now think about replacing all of those joules with power through the grid. We got a ways to go.
I think we’d make a huge step forward if it was illegal to trade in a car that wasn’t 15 years old or 150k miles +. Leasing and short attention spans are killing us more than efficiency, but maybe it all trickles down and the world needs cars anyway?
Another concern is that most of this vehicules are phoning home and the functionnality ultimately depend on what the factory decide/allow. So basically you aren't even owner of the car you buy, and you give away all your movements, and possibly more, to that company.
But since nobody cares about privacy, freedom and control, it doesn't seem to be a problem to most of us. People will probably accept to rent the right to breath air in the future and at which level of pollution depending on their income.
