It's come to this.

Brother HL-L8260CDW < Bam! Setup was a snap. Connects to WiFi, download updates, install desktop driver, install apple (IOS) print and done. Quality looks terrific.
We shall see long term. This is exactly what I'd hoped for.

SUPER nice. Goes into "deep sleep" automatically and is ready to rock with in < 30 seconds of receiving new print jobs. Does double sided printing by default and prints from phone apps. easily.
As they say "Strong buy".
