He was the man who ignite the flame, the others may have had even more fame, but they all owe to him.
Rest in peace!

You guys being much hipper than I probably knew this, but for about 6 months in 1965 one of his side men was a little known guitarist by the name of James Hendrix.

"Rhythm and Blues had a baby and they called it Rock n Roll" Little Richard
Tutti Frutti, his first smash hit in 1955, RIP Little Richard, a true legend. Along the same lines as Rubber Duckie was Itsy Bitsy Spider, kick ass music for the kids. His music makes me smile, a lot.

Little Richard has long been a fascination to me because besides being a rock and roll wild man, he also had a very spiritual side to him. These powerful opposite influences were always in tension with him all during his life and he was often not able to balance them. He was raised in a conservative christian family that included both Baptist and Pentecostal influences. During his teens or early 20's he was baptized into the denomination I belong to and went to study theology at Oakwood College in Mississippi. At various times during his life when we wasn't rocking audiences he was preaching the gospel as an ordained minister. Really. Just not in the same time period. I remember reading a religious magazine that did an interview with him in maybe the 90s about his religious journey. I went, what?! Little Richard?! He never stayed fixed in one camp but would go back and forth. One of our family friends said they heard his testimony in 2017 and was really moved and inspired by his love of Jesus. And I'm again going really!?
Our family attended a Little Richard concert in the mid 90’s. Before the concert began he and some of his staff went throughout the audience passing out religious literature.
