Re: timepieces
I loved my Rolex, but my Omega watches are wonderful.
The Seamaster gets my vote above all else. Get a stainless case,
and bracelet. Sapphire...of course. It's almost embarrassing to
say what I paid for my last Omega. I was being dragged along to
yardsales (just like getting a root canal without the fun). It was
later in the day and most of the sale had been picked-over. I saw
a box with an Omega symbol on the lid. I picked-up the box and
flashed it to my jeweler friend who was about fifteen feet away.
His eyebrows went up. I open the box, took out the watch, and
gently shook it to wind the spring. The lady who owned the watch
said, "Oh, it works!" Ok, I said, looking at the price ($10). Would
you take $5? "Well... no she replied, I really should get ten". (Yeah...
shame on me!) I reached in my pocket and pulled out the cash. "All
I have is $7." Ok, she replied. That'll do! The watch was about fifteen
years old, but almost untouched. Self-winding, sweep second hand, date.
*Breguet? Nice, but why not spend a few dollars less and buy a house?
*Rolex? The maintenance isn't too bad bad but it is more frequent than
I cared for. A Rolex on your wrist lets the world know you are better
than everyone else, but then people tend to think you're presumptuous.
*The Seamaster will run forever, is classy in the shop, at a formal dinner,
and unlike a Rolex, you don't have to trade-in your old friends to wear it.
Get an old Seamaster. People might assume you are old money.
