I went to hs in south Ga. in the late 1980s / early 1990s. One year girls in my math class started doing this thing where they would hold up their finger and move their head in circles while keeping the rest of their body still. It was a dramatic way to say "Oh no you didn't" - while some white girls did a poor imitation the black girls in my class owned it - there was a deep pride in putting someone in his place with this at the time. I was talking to a friend about this recently and neither of us have any idea where this originated. He grew up in Virginia but remembers the same thing. I'm thinking it's some sort of pop culture reference along the lines of "You just got served" but does anyone know where this originated or if it has a name?
