Default $3000 car challenge bay area

So that other thread got me going on this. Here is the challenge, finding a car in the bay area (or not too far from it) that I would use strictly to get my road and mountain bike around and maybe go to the office when it's too cold or raining too much for the 911 Cup2 tires

Car would be used a couple of times a month, would sleep outside, needs to start with no drama and not kill me. Truck would be good as I can throw the bike in there without removing wheels.

    Impossible ?

Here is a 4 runner. Needs work apparently....

You'd have had $7500 to work with if you'd passed up the 911's Extended Leather packages!

Get a 3k Tacoma, 2wd ones would be fine in the bay and are significantly less expensive than the 4wd versions.

Is it even possible to find a working Tacoma for this price? I've been searching for a truck to keep at the house to run and grab stuff (like wood pellets, yard tools, occasional lawn mower). Nothing seems to exist in that price...with a manual transmission I should add.

Did not see any Tacoma so far. Not that I need that.

That Mercedes wagon looks like an incredible deal if it comes with an engine.

Edit: A quick search of my local Craig's List for "wagon" shows that there are lots of great-looking cars out there for cheap right now. Eight or ten years ago, anything that ran was fetching at least $3k. Functional heat and AC were a few grand more.

I sent an email to that E320 wagon add. Seems indeed like too good to be true.

when did "130K miles" become "Low mileage"?

For $2900, even if you had to put another $7,000 into it, that is a steal.

No doubt in my mind, a 2CV would be perfect:

Back the truck up...what's wrong with the SeaSucker rack you have?

I'm kind of have the view that all cars are a pain in the arse to own, and one that you are already planning to only use a few times a month would increase that tendency. It's almost certain not to work when you need it. Or you won't be able to find the keys. Or. Or.

Go Get. Some sort of Rental club thing like that would be my way forward. Course you could just put tyres on your car that make it car like!

OK this is slightly embarrassing but there is nothing wrong with the Seasucker but the GT3 has a full wrap over the paint and the seersucker suction cups would lift it.
