Default just curious...anyone ever deal with audicus.com ?

Oldest has hearing aids in both ears. While he is quite responsible with them, they're aging and need to be replaced sooner rather than later. Unfortunately they aren't covered by insurance. We have some time still, and this isn't a surprise, but I've always wondered if online buying is a legitimate option. Seems everything else is...

Every time I hear someone comment that hearing aids aren't covered by insurance I think of what assholes insurance companies are.

Sorry I can't help but I know I'll need hearing aids one day and it seems ridiculous.

Hearing in my left ear is going out. I swear it's because I ride with a bud in my right ear. But yeah...insurance companies.

    I wear two. They suck.
My understanding though is that it's more the choice of the employer rather than the insurance company to cover/not cover. Though the insurers probably treat it like an up charge rather than a standard part of the package when selling to the employer.

And most hearing aid vendors are not health professionals, they're salespeople who really don't care, and often don't know their own product let alone the alternatives. That said, unless you have the patience or wherewithal to perform your after fitting follow up and maintenance on your own, I doubt that buying online is the best route. With my most recent pair, I had the mold redone on one, had shorter ear tubes fit, and have had a couple of firmware upgrades done. Not the kind of thing you want to be doing online.

If you can swing it, look at the ones that pair directly with phone via Bluetooth. I'm already tethered to my iPhone for other reasons. So I figured why not make it worth my while.

Get the hearing tested by an audiologist. Usually covered by insurance. Then check out Costco. Not the fanciest on the planet, but solid, middle of the road units at good prices.

Go straight to the hearing aid companies. Find a rep in your area. They are more familiar with programs that allow people to match costs to ability to pay.
