New Board For Framebuilders and Framebuilding -
With the success and energy evident on V and at the Friday PicFest (every Thursday...),
Velocipede Salon will soon integrate a new board tentatively named Smoked Out. In
the recent weeks we've seen several cats here open up and tell their stories. It spawned
the idea that we force the issue and make it a routine occurrence. At this point in time, the
concept includes inviting framebuilders to start a thread about themselves, and all posts to
it become a conversation between the framebuilder and the board. The OP can talk about
where he's from, his muses, the reason(s) he's in the trade, what his goals are, etc. The
replies to this are limited to the imagination of the salonistas. Use the threads to tell folks
more about your business or anything related, and be prepared to answer folks who want
to know so much more about the awesome work you do.
There are over 120 names listed on the Telai section as folks who say they make frames.
It matters not whether they are career cats or in their second season. Each story can be
a gem and all will add value (sic) to Velocipede Salon. We envision all threads to live on
a separate board in the Framebuilder Forum section, and we'll paste them in on a rotating
basis. In all cases, the newest thread will be stuck on top until it's replaced with the next
one, and the next one after that...
If you are a registered Telai board cat here and want to get in the queue for this new
section, please PM me asap. It'll be first come, first served until we plum run out of cats.

Re: New Board For Framebuilders and Framebuilding -
we have the first several cats lined up and hopefully can begin all of this in a matter of days atmo.
fyi, i thought it would be helpful to see the reply i PMed to the most recent request i received. here:
cool atmo you are number 3 in the queue and i will be in touch.
the goal is for the OP to talk about anything - ANYTHING - and make himself available to whomever
reads the salon and would want to post to and with him (you). make it commercial, or keep it folksy
and touchy-feely. tell people as much or as little as you are comfortable with, and the conversation
will be based on your feed. it's your call and your thread.
when the time comes, we'll set the permissions so that when you're user profile is checked, you have
the ability to start one thread on your own behalf. on that board, only one thread started allowed,
and all life and replies will exist on that thread (of yours). it's like a text and intellectual property version
of the gallery pages elsewhere on V atmo.
ps it's supposed to be fun!
be in touch...

Re: New Board For Framebuilders and Framebuilding -
okay - things are shaping up nicely atmo.
for just a mid day saturday, we have lined up the first four slots.
they will be (in order):
mike from zanconato custom bicycles
craig from foresta custom frames
tommy from baltimore bicycle works a.k.a. nash cycles
matt and nate from signal cycles
we'll start soon, and i reckon the OP will be pasted in on an every
third to fifth day basis. the ritual is still TBD. each thread will be a
place where salonistas can come back to and post to the framebuilder
as warranted. running conversations are fine, and it's the OP's call
as to what is spongeworthy atmo. the only caveat is the the most
recent framebuilder's thread will always remain on top (that's what
she said...). now is that value or what!
stay tuned...

Re: New Board For Framebuilders and Framebuilding -
fair warning to all -
based on my recent PM-a-thons we have at least the first 12 slots spoken for.
the mix will be a good one what with career guys as well as those who may one
day take their places. i am very psyched to see where the board and the chats
lead, and it sounds like fellow salonistas are jazzed as well atmo.
if you are an effbuilder reading and would like to be in the queue, please let
me know if you are interesting.
