    Default Sprinting: skipping wheel

I have a question to you all. When I sprint ( if you can call it that ) I skip my back wheel from side to side. My peak wattage is only 1340 so I'm pretty sure it's not wattage overload. I'm 6ft and 155 so it's not me throwing my massive bulk around. Am I getting to far foward over the bars? I know it's hard to tell without seeing but figured it's worth a shot.
    Thanks in advance,
    TJ

If you're losing traction or your wheel is jumping around under effort, then you are correct to assume that your weight is too far forward.

    You may need carbon paste.

do you have some silly short chainstays?
if you are not sprinting well, why haven't you ridden away from the field before the dash?
what's the point of waiting atmo?

Nope , normal length chain stays. I like your idea of not having to sprint but unless there is a big enough climb to cause a selection it prob ain't happening. I know that I'm no sprinter but if it comes down to it I'd like to throw down the best one I can.

1340 watts at 155 pounds is pretty darn good. Just buy a heavier bike and all that jumping around will stop. I had a bike that tended to skip a little when I put the hammer down. Got a different bike and it stopped.

Yeah, agreed. I outweigh you by about 20 lbs and can't get down a tremendous amount more than you can... so, I think you're doing pretty well from my crappy-amateur perspective.

But the skipping thing seems weird to me and would sketch me out.

But that thought doesn't really help you.

    I'd listen to e-R.

I am about 70 lbs heavier than you, and can just break 2,000 watts in a sprint effort. The only time I experience what you are talking about is if I really do a somewhat sloppy standing start on the track. This leads me to believe that it is a result of choppy pedaling at too low a cadence. If I am sprinting at speed, it never happens. Only when I am trying to get it going.

Not that anyone would question it, but it seems that my experience supports using Mr. Sachs' program to get away from the rear wheel hops.

Trust me, if you were my size you could probably do it too. 225 lbs is a lot to carry around all the time.

Let me tell you about a friend of mine. He is about 5'9, 165 lbs, and can hit 2,000 all day long. Get this, he has only been riding for about 3 years! He is truly a genetic marvel, and went from cat 5 to cat1 in a season and a half. I am convinced if he were a little younger, he would be a domestic pro for sure. Last year, he was in a break, and beat Dominique Rollin in a sprint to win a local crit in NJ. Now that guy should impress you.

Update: took 9th in the field sprint today with some heavy hitters in there. Sprint continues to get better and better. I have the sprint, now it's jus a matter of better positioning and such.

Attn: e-Richie , I tried to not let there be a sprint. Unfortuantely it got welded back together before the end.

I agree...I have a similar issue. Now I know how to work on correcting it.!!
