I've been listening to him a bit recently. Let me know how it is.

Planning on seeing Social Distortion and AltJ as they roll through BendOR later this year. I'll have to find a reason to leave town during the Phish show though.

    Good call!

I saw Social D in '84(?) on Mommy's Little Monster tour, TSOL opened - they rocked!

I remember they were *so* skinny…..

I want to finally see Wilco. I'm thinking about their Mass MOCA thing this summer.

I missed Vijay Iyer a few weeks back, and want to see his trio again.

And Sleater-Kinney should come back to Boston soon. They can sleep here.

Saw Peter Asher and Albert Lee at the Van Dyck. Different for sure. Peter and Gordon were Asher's history, pop songs I heard when I was a kid but never knew who did them. Pop songs stripped of the pop treatment done by two guys on acoustic guitars or one guy on a bass and one on guitar make you go damn that was actually a good song not just a good pop song. Albert Lee's a freaking artist. Killed a Jimmy Webb song, I don't know the name. They did a Green Day song and killed it. It's about the song, that they made clear.

"The Highwayman" I knew that song but looking over at Karen and seeing her just blown away was the coolest thing. Like the time we were in the park and seeing her expression when Michelle Shocked sang "When I grow up I want to be an old woman" Going to a show when you have no idea what you're going to see and coming away changed is the best.

I've always had a fondness for that song done by the band who used that name. I loved how they each took a verse. Sort of a Buddhist country song.

Beautiful weather for an outdoor lawn concert with Carlos Santana today. I missed Santana at the Seattle Pop Festival 48 years ago. I hope they still have some magic. Funny that outdoor 3 day pop festival was just a few miles away from the current outdoor venue.

Going to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds tomorrow night at the Greek in Berkeley. Should be a good show, though I'd prefer that they play a venue like the Fillmore or Warfield.

Big week. Dead & Co. started with a great show despite the presence of John Mayer (who I begrudgingly admit is good with them). Then to the Beacon to see a Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires who are always really good. But the highlight was opening night at the a Solid Sound Festival. Wilco was scheduled to play its album Being There from beginning to end. They did. Then they came out for an encore and played Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in its entirety. That is one powerful band. I might have to go back to see what they play tonight. And Mass MoCA is a really great place to see shows.

feel silly posting the same venue, but had another chance to go to the Dew Drop historic jazz hall, this time to see Steve Pistorius and the Southern Syncopators play a tribute to Buck Johnson. pretty amazing, especially being in such a small space and live acoustics

Just got two tickets and a babysitter for Son Volt at the Haw River Ballroom. Stoke level quite very highly high. It's a killer venue, too.

Saw Mokoomba at the little theater downtown. For a band from Zimbabwe that made it big worldwide they threw down a completely over the top high energy show in a small venue in a little upstate NY town. Of course they may have been a little motivated because their US debut a few years ago at the free summer shows in the park. We are so freaking lucky here... and they did some amazing new stuff. They did an a capella that made me almost cry it was so beautiful. But then they did some stuff that made me forget I can't dance and got up and jumped around spastically. If you're in Berkeley this week head down to Freight and Salvage. You won't be sorry.

I wasn't done! Can't edit... anyway, didn't think I mentioned last night's ahead of time. Trio of Greg Howe, Stu Hamm and a drummer I didn't catch his name but was really good because he had to be to match the other two at that Van Dyck. Can't really describe it except technique was crazy and really really loud. "Let's make some noise" said Howe and they did.

Went to Masrou' Leila in San Francisco last Wednesday. I really didn't expect them to be that good, but Hamed Sinno totally channels famous rock queens past, and he has a Mideast charm they didn't had.

They are touring the US later this month, try to catch a show.
