I know it's Tuesday, but I read the news today that a wonderful woman who was a guide and trip leader on our 2017 Grand Canyon raft trip had passed after battling cancer for 29 months. Those eight days spent on the river changed my life. A dear friend and her wife invited me to join their 2017 trip. The trip had four men and twenty women, and of those, most were couples. I was one of the only straight people on the trip. The second or third night, we gathered our chairs in a circle and talked about acceptance of others. It was that night that I believe I "got it." The guide spoke about how we view outsiders and suddenly, I was out of my comfort zone. I was the person not like the others and it was kind of emotional.
