I say no. I was a loyalist from about 1994 - 2013. Referring to the corporate parent, the "Volvo Volvos" were solid but quirky with troublesome electronics, interior would fall apart, etc. Drivetrains were reliable and they were indeed objectively safer than almost anything on the road. The Ford-era Volvos fixed the electronics and the interior, improved the reliability, etc. Solid cars, styling became more mainstream. Undistinguished with a long product cycle, but a decent value. I still have a 2004 XC70 that gets used for bike race, kayak, snow duty and I like it. Current cars are just very generic, not great value, long product cycle (current models have either been around since 2007 or look inside and out like they have been), prices are higher than some of the improved and comparable domestic cars, performance is meh, not great fuel economy or performance. In terms of safety, pretty much everyone else has caught up and they've lost that as a calling card. There was talk last year of Volvo leaving the American market. Soooo........overall I would say no. Many better cars out there at the same price point these days.

I'm still enjoying my 2011 V50, which has the T5 motor and sporty-but-useless R-design aesthetics. It's been problem-free over the last 35k miles, still infancy in Volvoland I know. I'm only disappointed when I try to drive it like a BMW (the suspension can't really handle spirited cornering, which I knew going in) or when I try to fit more than two adults and a baby seat (which makes me wish I'd gotten the XC70). The seats are the most comfortable of any car I've spent a lot of time in. My wife and I just test drove a 2015.5 XC70 with the new 4-cylinder and FWD; no plans to buy anything soon, but I liked the size and comfort for a family hauler.

FWIW, I think that WSJ review of the V60 is pretty superficial. The Jalopnik review is more substantive and constructively critical. While I haven't driven the V60 myself, I will say that it's far more luxurious than my V50. For that kind of money and how I imagine it drives, I'd personally rather have a 3-series wagon.

My parents are taking delivery of a V60 this week or next, so I'll get some wheel time and can report back.

Is that an Exx AMG Wagon? I saw one on the road the other day - wow. I'm not a normal MB fan, but that I think I'd settle for that.

Don't I wish. I drive the car about 4 miles a day. To take the dogs to the park. They like their spacious cargo area.

Maybe an LS7 for the Roady.

Found myself behind a lady in a C63 AMG wagon the other week. She pulled away in a very controlled manner but still--that rumble.

The sedan version is what lock-step, white rs6 tech guys and gals should get. Equal parts street and work cred.

Consider a custom made hitch. Look around, there are fab shops that can do this.
