I’m just about to wrap up participation in Precision Nutrition’s Lean Eating coaching program for the year. I signed up last Dec because I knew I had to make some changes. Focusing on one new habit every two weeks along with lifting some weights, doing some high-intensity intervals, and being consistent I’ve lost 54lbs. Yesterday I got an email to help select the winner in the contest side of the program. When I signed up I never dreamed I’d lose this much weight (and still have some to go) so I wasn’t surprised that I hadn’t been contacted about being a finalist. I started scrolling through the pictures and BAM… there I was.
Take a look at the changes all these guys have made. Pretty amazing. I’m #15 if you’re wondering.

Thanks Matthew. I took a bit of a break from riding this year to focus on the Lean Eating program but I'm super excited to get out on my new Breadwinner in the spring.

So I have taken a break from almost all formal exercise from the holidays on, I cant believe I didnt put on more than 4 lbs since then. This past week I started again. I did stairs for the first time, and made it through 100 flights, no problem, running about over 2/3's of them, only walking for interval purposes. I think I must have been over training in the fall, because this would have hurt then, I'm wondering how much that cost my CX racing.

Last year at this time I was about 40 lbs heavier, so it will be exciting to see what I can do this year. Right now I'm at 216, 11.5% fat. I would like to get down to 205/8%. I dont know how long this will take me, but I'd like to feel really good at the start of summer.

Also, this might be for another thread, but I started using TRX straps that my dad gave me as a gift. I'm using them for strength and mobility and they seem to work great, kind of fun to do, and seems like it will good to fit in with riding, especially for cross/mtb. Also helps that I dont need to keep heavy weights in the apartment, or jump up and down and piss off neighbors.

What gym/fitness apps does everyone here use?

I've downloaded and perused a good amount of them so far and have settled on JEFIT. users can upload routines, it maintains body stats and 1rm's best sets/times/distances for a boat load of things. The app syncs to the computer which I like (click sync, done) and I've lost 7lbs over the past couple weeks (was doing zero exercise for a while prior thanks to work/school/brain mush). Currently doing cycling base by a user named Cashstarved?

What do the experts here think?

Hey man, two words. Almonds. Coffee.
And spread out the time between them.
Also, it is good if you can skip a meal now and then.

When you get weak, there are tons of tools to help.
One is imagining your self with 20 pounds of butter hanging around you.
Another tack is to think of Clint as Dirty Harry, not needing to eat,
or G. Gordon Liddy with his hand in the flame being strong.

    That's what I do.

So, you body fat % people.... I'm assuming you're using a Tanita or some such impedance scale. Have you calibrated such measurements with the BOD POD or underwater weighing, etc.? Seems like some really low numbers mentioned. Lots of variables in these measurements, right?

there was a comment about almonds.

i recently heard something on NPR stating that almonds are one of the more perfect snack foods out there- good fat, good oils, satisfying, and as you really don't truly chew them 100%, quite a bit just passes right through apparently.

i was 235lbs about 2 years ago. got down to around 200 and just couldn't drop any more. as a new years resolution, and a suggestion from the wife, i have tried the gluten free thing here since January 1. the result? finally below 200. close to 190 i think. getting a new MTB has completely helped as well, i will admit.

Don't drink your calories. If you drink soda, stop. Ride, rinse, repeat.

Joining a winter conditioning class has helped me, although I'm not really shedding weight, just putting on more muscle which I'm ok with.

I took a baseline, same scale same time of day everyday. Only concerned with the number reducing rather than what the number actually is.

    Le sigh -
    2013 was a multi-upgrade-go-real-fast-Cat2 sorta year,
After 18 months of not riding even at all I'm reading this thread and trying to find my way back.

did 35 miles the other day, that sucked, here's hoping to make the wheels go around more.
    This thread is encouraging.

This is what I use mine for -
I've also baselined it against "tanking" numbers and know the offset (which is consistent across a few checks), so I know roughly what the actual numbers are, even if they aren't the ones the scale is showing.

I might need to shame myself into losing a few lbs again. All the running, indoor soccer, and tennis I've been doing over the last 3 weeks didn't compensate for the amount of beer, beef, and cheese consumed. I have respiratory and muscular fitness, just not where I want to be weight wise. At least bike time starts again tomorrow.
