I definitely think the Democrats are within their rights to demand an interim federal government until the Inauguration. Pence at least should take over, if not Pelosi.

I had thought the same thing. Get the vote done to rubber stamp the electoral commission and then Pence and co can remove Trump under the 25th Amendment leaving Pence in charge for the remaining two weeks. But, that would just provoke more violence and unrest and is probably not worth the damage it would do.

As third in line of succession her security is vital. When people said 4 years ago this so-called president represented a threat to democracy, this republic and was already a constitutional crisis many thought it was exaggerated and hyperbolic but it was accurate and prescient. He can still be removed and I hope he will be.

Sorry I don't see death or decapitation listed in the amendment. But I am all for calmer heads. Right now, I think Trump's head currently renders him unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. I'm pretty calm about it. I think you are wrong that this is going to end in two weeks though.

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session.
