I'll start the love fest. First three day weekend in forever is kicking off at noon. Meeting my two best friends for a guys only weekend. Riding Saturday and Sunday for sure and possibly Monday. We will be a sight for sore eyes. Three old men on a Seven, a Carl Strong and my Hampsten. Pics to follow if not too incriminating.

Probably moving soon-ish, maybe. Got my eye on a house with a nice detached two car garage that will become Southern Wheelworks HQ. It's 15mins from downtown, but sort of in the country, and half a mile from a dirt road, with easy riding access to lots more dirt roads. Pretty sure I could put together a century with less than 20 miles of pavement.

Lots of big changes coming soon, and the transition is gonna suck, but I'm excited to get where we're going.

After endless stress, I received a potentially life changing call last night in regards to my family/legal situation.

I learn as much from my daughters as they learn from me. Getting ready for school this morning, I find a a handful of used plastic bags in my 9 year old's backpack. I start to fuss at her and I see something on her face.

This year I've started writing "dad jokes" on the girls' snack bags every morning. My 9 year old has been saving the bags with the jokes so she can read them when she's having a bad day. I'd be lying if I said I didn't shed a few tears on the way back from walking them to school. Happy long weekend.

It's been one week off work and so far I've painted the house trim, repaired/replaced gutters and downspouts, repaired our dishwasher (a PITA due to a stupid design- I curse you Samsung engineers!), replaced kitchen faucet and under sink plumbing, replaced stair railing, finished our laundry room (drywall, cabinets and shelving) and did a ton of yard work. I still need to replace our water heater and paint the laundry room but right now I'm feeling pretty good about what I've got done.

Spending a few days in the Midwest makes me happy. No airplanes for a week. Two fantastic rides over the past couple days with actual gradients requiring actual shifting and with more choices than just going out and back the same way. Hopefully another of the same today.

Going to Wisconsin tomorrow and will visit a cousin and aunt and uncle in Trempealeau. This whole cycling thing is his fault. He let me ride his Peugeot with tubulars about 35 years ago and I loved every second of it. I will ride with him for the first time in, literally, 35 years.

Driving up to Minneapolis Sunday for a day with my mother and brother there and then starting that long slog back to VA Beach just in time for Grumpy Thursday.....

But it's been a relaxing few days with no real schedule and no plans except riding and friends. Loving that.
