That BrionVega turntable stereo is a reissue of a 50+ year old design I believe. Their radio “cube” design was ripped off by a Sony clock radio that seemed to be everywhere in the 80’s. My granddad actually had one of the original BrionVega cubes. He liked modern furniture.

I like that Elac. I had some Jones-designed Pioneer speakers I bought on recommendation from a friend who knew. They sounded excellent and were not very expensive actually. I gave them to my niece a couple moves ago. Anyway that’s interesting. Plus it has airplay which I prefer over bluetooth for its stability.

follow up to the non stereo for small places thread drift, I received that little beast today and it sounds really nice for the small form factor. Like my Bose soundlink mini but slightly better sounding. It can even be mounted on a tripod.

Let me know if you see or hear one in real time. I am also enamored with the smaller KEF LS50 active speakers but that's an all-in-two box system

There's an Elac on Amazon listed at $180 and I almost bought it before realizing it was a used item from Amazon's Warehouse, which means it probably got returned without a box or without key internal parts or was on fire or you name it.

I'd go for an Alfa Berlina:

Okay so I bought two of the new Sonos 5 speakers. Oddly they shipped separately (ordered through B&H in NYC) but I guess that's because they come sealed in tamper proof packaging, which is weird and kinda nice I guess. Anyway, plugged in the one that arrived today, and put on Johann Johannsson's soundtrack for the movie Arrival. Pretty amazing sound for one speaker. Not audiophile, but better than most things we've had in the house over the years. I read through the verbiage and carefully disabled everything sneaky I could get to without preventing me from logging the speaker onto our WiFi. If it gets up in the middle of the night and starts counting socks in the drawer, then I'm splitting it with my Husqvarna.

Thanks for the advice. BTW, I'm all for that Lancia.

    Congrats!

I like the cheaper Sonos SL, because we listen it it, and it doesn't listen to us.

Yeah a bit creeped out by that. But I've done as much as possible in the software to turn all of that off.

The other day my wife and I were sitting in the car, and she said "We should get food from that new Middle Eastern Restaurant in Hudson". Then she got out of the car and went into the grocery store to pick up our groceries. I stayed in the car and typed into Google maps on my phone "M - I " and Google filled in "Middle Eastern Restaurant in Hudson".

Second speaker arrived. Sound is pretty great with two. Fills our living/diining/kitchen space nicely. My wife spent the evening reviewing our music. Philip Glass' Glassworks was excellent on these speakers.

I assume the 5s have access to the Trueplay tuning thingy.

You might want to try it out - I did with the stereo pair of 1s in our living room. It made a noticeable difference, which ultimately I decided I didn't like... But you might!

Late to the party, but I'm happy with my H/K Citation 300. They've been on sale for a while - got is for $130 iirc - and more are available from H/K at that price right now, refurb'd. It creates a network through google-home/wifi and works easy peasey w an iphone or android - and you can turn the microphone off to disable the "hey google" function. Sound is pretty decent for what it is..

I just decided to pull the trigger on a powered speaker, too.
I went with the Dynaudio 7 after listening to a number of systems.
Under a grand, but competitive with some of the other really pricey ones, and best sound quality to price ratio (imho, atmo, and ymmv).
