It's the center of the universe for your industry, it sounds like you're pretty open to where the winds might take you, and the riding is spectacular. It's far away from where you're at, and it's not without its problems, but it sure has a lot going for it too...

GA has it going on for film/tv stuff.

The study, conducted by the nonprofit film office in LA, analyzes the 100 highest-performing feature films released every year. It also examines how much it took to make each of those films and how much of that money was spent in the place the film was made.

In 2016, Georgia led the pack in terms of amount of films produced here, with 17 major movies shot around the state. California and Louisiana combined only produced one more film than the Peach State.

I am proud to see our success continue, as the $9.5 billion in total economic impact reflects the sustainability of the film industry and the benefits of our competitive incentives program."

More than 92,100 jobs and nearly $4.6 billion in total wages have been created in Georgia, according to the Motion Picture Association of America. Over the past 8 years, more than 300 industry related businesses have relocated to the Peach State.

A lot of TV / Netflix stuff is shot here too. Walking Dead, Stranger Things, Ozark all immediately come to mind.

You are def not being Captain Obvious.. great question. LA is the epicentre for my chosen profession. It is not off the radar at all. My support structure is on the east coast so this is the first sector if you will, for my job search.
I hit the industry job sites as well as Glass Door etc; and unearthed a wealth of great paying opportunities in NYC, DC, and Atlanta. I'm listing my home in the next few weeks and will most likely wind up at the family home
up in NJ for a while. I can easily get into NYC and hit the bricks as they say. Also, I can stay there and not have to float a mortgage. I will be 40 minutes from EWR so I can fly to interview anywhere I please.

I have a few friends in the biz in LA so it's not out of the question.

Thought about you this weekend Artie. 13th annual Macon Film Festival. Very small, and way under appreciated/utilized IMO. We've been all three years we've lived here and we LOVE it! We always make a point to see the 'GA Made' blocks, usually a short, one for documentaries, and sometimes a feature film or two.

Here's one of the shorts from this year, we enjoyed it. There's always a Q&A w/the film makers at the end of each block, and one of the questions was if they had to go 'outside' for any help in their film, aka outside of GA. They all did everything here in GA.

Thanks Dustin, I appreciate the love man. Yes, the film industry is booming there. TBH the northeast would provide better financial benefits but I am in love with the southern lifestyle.
I will be in NYC for the next few months and be facing a winter so let's see how things shake out. There is a ton of freelance work in NYC as well. I have 2 very solid opportunities in the works that would set me up nicely.
If they don't pan out I can really hit ATL and TN hard. I spoke with a producer friend at FOOD network in Knoxville and she asked for my resume. I hear nice things and am planning a visit to TN soon.

Lots of media in DC, the local economy and job market has traditionally weathered the crashes pretty well (and the country is due for a major hit in the next few years IMO). Cost of housing inside the beltway is high, but not if you're also considering the NYC area as perspective. I'm not sure if it's completely deserved, but Washington also consistently appears near the top of "best bicycle-friendly cities" lists with a good network of dedicated lanes and MUPs in/around the city. Great road and gravel riding is quite accessible on weekends, and there's a lot of culture going on, and it's turning into a foodie destination as well. Summer humidity sucks, but compared to Atlanta? Pfffft...

I would not want to live in South Jersey if enjoying my time away from work - in whatever capacity you choose to interpret that - was a priority. It lacks beauty, the traffic is horrible, and it takes forever to do basic things because of the traffic and New Jersey's peculiar approach to infrastructure.

Not to pile on with the south Jersey hate but riding in Monmouth/Ocean counties is as about as exciting as a fart in church. If you could go a little north say Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset you get some real variety and some great riding despite what the rest of the country may think. Of course the cost of living can be much higher when compared to the south. No one has mentioned the ferry out of Atlantic highlands either if you choose monmouth/ocean. Pricey but negates the traffic,train, bus nightmares

It's the new year and I am revisiting this discussion. I decided to take the holiday season to ride out a freelance contract with the Discovery Channel here in South Florida.
The contract is nearing it's end and the facility here is either being shut down or relocated so I am looking at a realistic kill date of mid year 2019.

So, my house is to be listed this month and I'm going to setup a home base up in NJ at the family compound, Ocean Twshp. to be specific.
I'm planning to get back into NYC and get some freelance work going.
This is a good opportunity to start fresh and continue to search for opportunities elsewhere if need be.
Atlanta, Knoxville/Nashville, DC/Virginia, and Philadelphia are all on the short list.
Los Angeles is the obvious choice for my industry but I'm focusing on the east coast for now.

If all goes as planned I should be up there full time in the spring.
I would love to get in some riding in NYC and the outlying routes.
I have a bunch of friends up in Rockland County so I am planning to do the Harriman routes and maybe even get up to New Paltz this summer.
I'm planning to leave my Zanconato in Florida so I can escape and come ride with the gang every once in a while.
So I'm bringing the Hampsten up north.

It's going to be quite an adjustment being back in NY/NJ after 18 years in South Florida but I am looking forward to exploring some of the roads that I grew up on by bicycle.

So this is coming to a head and I will be heading to the NY/NJ area in a month or so.
Specifically, living in Monmouth county for now and working in Manhattan.
The plan is jump into the freelance pool and see what I can build from there.

It turns out that some friends from back in high school have been road riding in Rockland county for years
so I am excited to ride with them and hit Harriman State Park, 7 Lakes Drive, and finally do that ride from Nyack to the city.
I really want to ride up in New Paltz and the surrounding area as well, I have spent so many summer weekends up there, it's beautiful.
I'm hoping to do some riding in NYC as well but don't know the routes as of yet.
If anyone wants to show me the ropes I will happily buy the post ride Trippels.
I'll be bringing the Hampsten with me for big rides and the old De Rosa for cruising the beach so my bases should be covered for all types of riding.
It should be a killer summer.

Hey Bob, I just found this thread again.
The move was delayed but it's looking like before end of summer for me.
Job possibilities in NYC and Stamford so I am exploring Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow and Nyack for my new home.
I grew upon in Rockland county so I have a lot of people there.
Looking forward to meeting all of the NYC and Hudson Valley Salonistas.

Currently in Tarrytown / Sleepy Hollow and liking it a lot. I befriended a few local riders and they have been taking me out a few times a week.
The roads are fantastic here and apparently I am on the doorstep to some of the best riding in this area. There is just so much ground to cover.
I recently did a route up to and around the Croton Reservoir on some of the most beautiful roads I have ever ridden.
Also hitting the other side of the river a bit and doing the river road from Nyack down Sparkill and into NJ. Still need to explore that some more.
Good stuff, looking forward to an awesome Spring and Summer on the bike.
