Stay With Me has not been without controversy for Smith – in January it was reported that Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne had been awarded songwriting credits due to the track’s similarities with Petty’s 1989 hit I Won’t Back Down. As a result, the song is credited not just to Smith and his co-writers James Napier and William Phillips but also Petty and Lynne.

How bout they reverse the credit and award?

Pile's [em]Magic Isn't Real[/em] is probably in my top 3 albums - if not #1. I'm pretty ticked off I'll miss their Miami concert because I'm out of the country.

They have a new album out that at first listen to a few songs, I wasn't crazy about. You can never capture the feeling of an album with just a couple of pre-released songs. As an album, it's quickly growing on me. Due out on 3/3 or something like that.

Har Mar Superstar is one helluva showman. Saw him play a show, just him, a drummer and prerecorded tracks. I was initially bummed about the lack of live instrumentation. Didn't take long to change my mind. Dude is a hoot.

Pet Sounds has to be one of my fave albums of all time. Brian Wilson deserves all the praise heaped on him.

I can't believe you can write arrangements like that and then fit them into the "pocket symphony" like he did. There were no ProTools for demoing arrangements, just mixing down live with 8 tracks. At the age of 23. Blows my mind every time I think about it. The Pet Sounds box set is worth it if you're a Beach Boy's nerd.

That's fantastic! Do you have a similar deconstruction of God Only Knows (perhaps the most gorgeous pop song ever)?

Agreed! Such a great tune. Legend has it that Brian wrote it in seven minutes.

People have uploaded pretty much the entire box set to youtube.

Speaking of naked vocal tracks, if you haven't yet, check out Freddy Mercury/David Bowie "Under Pressure." Gives me chills every time.

I've been listening to the new Modest Mouse album, and I can't seem to listen to anything else.

But this morning there was an article in the Times about Alabama Shakes, and while I don't usually like most of what the Times talks about in re: music, this seems to rock.

I saw Alabama Shakes at the Newport Folk Festival a few years ago. They - and especially Brittany Howard - burned the place down. ...figuratively, course. It's made of stone...

Last night, it was the Band. These songs, they're perfect:

It's this one or Patti Smith who does the best cover of Pale Blue Eyes.
