I made the mistake of watching a video review and the damn thing was all over the counter. The reviewer favored the VM because it's heavier but I'm thinking the review was sponsored by VM in the first place.

There's a lot of blender reviews on the Youtube, and a lot of them look like they were made by people who are promoting one brand over the other; they are not impartial. One of them showed the BT creeping along the counter top as it made a smoothie....cut to the VM not moving "because it's heavier and better." Sounded like BS but thought I would ask before ordering.

    Guys -
My wife's been lusting after a Vitamix for some time but this thread has convinced me the Blendtec might be the better product. So, honestly, is there any advantage that the Vitamix has over the Blendtec, which might cause her to chase me outta the room with a broomstick if a Blendtec were to show up on Mother's Day?

And, second question--which model(s) do you own/recommend? Many thanks. This thread is yet another example of the good that is the V-Salon!

Lots of comparisons online, Blendtec v. Vitamix. My wife and I found this one pretty informative...

Most Comprehensive Vitamix vs Blendtec blender comparison review

Yeah, thanks, I know. And have read several already, including the one you mention
(which seems ok after you wade through all the ink touting their site's links to Blendtec and Vitamix).

Really, the reason form my post was I am looking for some personal observations from the crew here.

There's a video version of that review that differentiates between the BT models. I found interesting that the $449 model has basically the same functionality of the $399 model but it's 2db quieter. And the control surface is a little different. I don't think my old ears can distinguish 2db!

Talked to the Blendtec folks and -- setting aside the uber expensive models -- their models apparently have the same guts. The main difference seems to be that the models sold directly by Blendtec ( and a few dealers such as Costco) and the ones sold by most of their authorized dealers have slightly different control interfaces. Costco has a good deal now that includes the small Twister jar for $400.

The biggest difference I experienced between the two is that you can full-throttle reverse directions on the VM. I had an older model VM that i burned up. The BT has been stellar, but I don't have modern VM (and have no need currently). The BT "jars" wear out after eventually. So does everything. I bought mine through an ebay seller IIRC.

Everything has been said, GET SOMETHING!

2k is cool for a pair of wheels, but we gotta hash out every last detail and colour of a blender?

Nah, let us not degenerate into a "review" site.

Great thread. I've been following it for awhile. I just picked up a Blendtec Total Designer Series for my wife for putting up with me during 5 months of marathon training. She makes smoothies everyday and had been talking about wanting a better blender (we had a 2-speed basic blender that I had since I was a bachelor), so I took the plunge. We've only used it a couple of time but so far, so good.

Yes got one for my wife too ... just for putting up with me in general.

I was going to send one to my parents as my Dad thought their blender had conked out.
But he just sent me an email to say he was thrilled that their neighbor/handy man had repaired it.

over 180 uses(it keeps count) since i started this thread 3 months ago. absolutely no complaints. beyond dips and smoothies i'm really enjoying various savory puree's that replace higher calorie sauces to accompany greens and protein on the dinner plate.

vitamix rule just make sure you get the one with variable speeds. Costco sells them and if it breaks in its lifetime and you keep the receipt you can return no questions asked.

Care to post recipes of a few of your favorite savory purees?
I'm always looking for something interesting in which to marinate
or spread over the ubiquitous grilled or sauteed chicken breast.

honestly, anything. a fist full of something starchy or a veg, a splash of liquid, S&P and if you like, herbs or spices that go with the other selection. I've no real recipes for these. it is always on a whim.
