mail order mens dress shirts ?
from who are you guys ordering dress shirts these days?
i'm talking basic white, fitted collared dress shirts. i prefer they not be tooo expensive, because white dress shirts really dont last long in my experience. i work in NYC and party hard and often. every saturday morning i drop off a bag of dress shirts at the local cleaner. if they can get the blood, red wine and whiskey stains out of the shirts and press them, so be it - otherwise they go to the bin.
currently i get shirts on a combination of ordering from a handful of places online as well as what i haphazardly purchase at brick and mortar locations.
i'd ideally like to find a place that i know my size and can order a few shirts at a time whenever i need to.
most days these are worn under a sport coat, no tie.
i have a typical cyclist build; 5-5 about 135#
who's your go-to?
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
Charles Tyrwhitt and TM Lewin
There's always sales.
One of them (forget which) has an extra slim cut that is the bees knees.
I usually get between 4 & 6 once a year, depending on sales and how recently I've put my elbow through an older one.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
Proper Cloth. The materials are top notch and I appreciate their methods for getting your fit on the money.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
I've used Paul Fredrick for quite some time. They handle my orangutan arms off the rack and the slim cut works for a (my) cyclist build. Yes, they wear out, but the prices, on sale, are reasonable. I do keep a few Brooks Brothers for the really important meetings. Shipping is not ultra fast, but they are reliable in my experience.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
Lands End
They make nice fitted shirts, from cheap broadcloth to Supima.
I get their no-iron versions.
Reasonably priced, well made and long wearing. I'm satisfied.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
agreed on Lands End. I have quite a few of their shirt and have been happy with them as well.

I have mixed feelings on Proper Cloth. Really liked the first few but the fit on the more recent ones is not the same (and I did not change the measurements at all), and the change is not for the good.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
I'm with Ronnie asJos. A. Bank still makes shirts with exact sleeve and neck dimensions with a slim and trim cut available. Watch their website for sales as they often sell their signature series for around $25-30.

Combatant Gentlemen. Good but not great, plenty good enough for the office. Maybe not Wall Street good, but plenty good enough for this dick.

CT here also, 6'6", 185, 37 sleeve. The slim fit and extra slim fit me very well.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
placed an order a couple weeks ago with TM Lewin, the stuff looked good and the sale was too hard to argue with. shirts are at the cleaners being pressed now, so i'll report back!

Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
I'll chime for thirds for CT Shirts. After all, I'm wearing one today.
Reasonably priced and thy're often running sales. Last order came with brass collar stays. Nice.
However, my biggest complaint is lack of that lil' forearm button. Fine while wearing a coat but looks sloppy when the coats off. I also can't grasp the double button cuff vs single button. Some shirts have them, some don't. I dunno...

checking in since i'm wearing one of the TM Lewin shirts today. I wound up getting 4 shirts, two "fitted" and two "super fitted" to check the fit. I like them, pretty decent quality, delivered correctly and quickly, and fit well, in both styles. long term durabilty has yet to be be seen, but i really dont expect dress shirts to last very long in the service i use them. count me as a fan.

For off the rack, check out https://www.ledbury.com/ or my all time favorite, Dress Shirts / SidMashburn.com
For made to measure, Dress Shirts from My Tailor By Hemrajani has an infinite number of choices and you should easily be able to schedule a visit with one of their traveling tailors in your neck of the world.

I'm a Tyrwhitt guy too, and now that you mentioned it, I've reached for the forearm button only to find it not there. Hadn't really thought about it, but you're right on that. I probably should go made-to-measure again as I have large wrists/frame and with some of my watches the Tyrwhitt cuffs are uncomfortably snug.
But since I'm not in the corp world anymore I don't buy quite so many dress shirts. I take pride in that.
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
I used to buy from Charles Tyrwhitt, good prices, but the fit was never quite right.
Check out ratio clothing.com out of Denver. They have an almost infinite number of customization options, and the quality is great. And made in America. Actually, one of the shirts i ordered from them showed up exactly as ordered, but with a Brooks Brothers label. I called Ratio and they said it was a mistake - they are made by the same people that make Brooks Brothers high-end custom shirts...
Re: mail order mens dress shirts ?
I've tried Charles Tyrwhitt - found the fabric to be a bit too lightweight, and I'll second the comment on the cuffs being small. Can only fit my slimmest watch underneath.
I've decided to stick with Brooks Brothers. Price continues to steadily rise over the years, but I've been very happy with the quality. I have some that are going on 10 years old and look nearly new. They rename their fits every few years, but keep the tag color (blue, red, green, purple) the same so go by that. Now that I don't wear ties much anymore I also find I can size down a half inch in the color to get a slimmer cut in the body.
