Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
Speed Metal Cycling (okokok, my boss's podcast)
The Champs with Neal Brennan and Moshe Kasher
Smartest Man in the World (Greg Proops. If you're into improved rants about alcohol, Baseball, Blacksploitation movies, and progressive politics, this one can be fun)
The Dana Gould Hour (more like 3 hours)
WFMU's The Best Show is moving to Podcast. That should be pretty cool.

Jen Kirkman: "I Seem Fun"
Judge John Hodgman
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
I listen to The Amp Hour every week along with the Embedded podcast. Both are excellent for people into electronics and tech talk.
I also enjoy Still Untitled:The Adam Savage Project and Creature Geek.
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
I am +1'ing We're Alive. I really liked it.
I know Serial is the darling podcast of the day and I like it but I don't get why its such a big deal. I would listen to a lot of the aforementioned stuff before it.

The recent interview with Bil Herd was awesome. They get a lot of really great guests on that show.

The Nerdist has been mentioned too. I only listen to the ones with guests I wan to hear. The show ranges from great to I can only take a minute and a half.
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
Thanks for the tip on Dana Gould. I like his stuff. I've seen him live a couple of times, including a one man show he did in SF twenty or so years ago, which was simultaneously gut wrenchingly painful in its honesty and very funny.
Jen Kirkman's sister was a high school pal of mine.

To add to the "or otherwise" section
Stuff You Should Know - This is my favorite one lately, educational, entertaining and the hosts are funny in an innocent goofy sort of way.
What are some other science/educational podcasts anyone is listening to?
Also- This is an excellent place to discover new podcasts and stream everything with ease : Podbay.fm - Stream any podcast in the universe quickly and easily.
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
I'm really into:
Planet Money, Freakenomics 99% invisible and the TrainerRoad podcast
Anyone got a new dad podcast that can recommend?
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
popandmod - looks like I'm going to have to try 99% invisible because I really like your other suggestions.
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
I'm a huge fan of the Tony Kornheiser Show. It used to be a radio program in the Washington DC area and is ostensibly a sports show but it's humorous on a number of other topics as well. Now it's a podcast only program and is free of radio constraints though they still do advertising. It's way better advertising than radio ads and much less intrusive to the flow of the show.
He's an ESPN on-air guy as part of the PTI show and has a claim of infamy regarding some unfortunate comments he made about cyclists in the DC area. I think he's made amends and listening to his podcasts and broadcasts it's clear it wasn't the first time he said something he later regretted. But he owns his mistakes and he's a bright and articulate guy, as are his regular cast members and guests.
Rated 10/10.
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
So I can't say exactly why I like the Trainer Road podcast as much as I do. I have been on the trainer a lot for me this winter but I am not counting every watt and usually don't do more than 40 minutes indoors. I guess it is the mix of bikes, training, science and nutrition.
Is anybody listening to any good podcasts about general health, nutrition or fitness? Bike related or not is fine. In these cold months listening and reading to things about being healthy helps keep me going. I have been searching and so far haven't found any that I am really into.
Thanks
Re: Podcasts: cycling or otherwise
Rec I like a couple dietary/lifestyle based podcasts but my interest in them was first out of desperation with declining health due to Crohn's disease -
I like two that are paleo centered, but there is much more to take from them with all of the guests ranging from doctors to professors to athletes
Fat Burning Man with Able James
the Paleo Solution with Robb Wolf
I do like Ben Shapiro also, but I am not very heavily versed in political issues so this is more of an educational show for me at this point.

I enjoy Vinnie Tortorich's Fitness Confidential. Seems like a pretty straight up guy who used to be a competitive endurance cyclist before he torched his shoulder. He's just now getting into mountain biking again after shoulder surgery. It's heavily diet and food related (No Sugars, No Grains is his thing), which stems from his bout with Leukemia.
CyclingTips has a podcast now, and I usually enjoy the RKP/Paceline Podcast - good mix of advocacy, gear and racing talk.
