Re: Movies that don't suck
Earlier this year my wife and I started a project - watch the AFI's top 100 movies. Full list here: AFI's 100 YEARS...100 MOVIES
We started at #100 and are working our way to #1. It's been pretty fun so far, stuff we'd have never watched otherwise. The oldest movie we've seen so far is from 1938. Seeing the cultural differences in various movies from different time periods is interesting. We try and watch one every weekend, but that doesn't always work out. #91 (My Fair Lady) is next.
FYI, most these movies can be found on Amazon's streaming video service, and many are free if you're a Prime member.
Re: Movies that don't suck
I totally dislike Wes Anderson's movies but Grand Budapest is killer!
Would be worth seeing if tickers were $32 instead of $16.

I just watched Throne of Blood.
I like old movies and arty movies but I definitely have to be in the mood for them, this was really cool with my shitty attention span, very spooky samurai movie.

Just fired it up. Your reputation is on the line. I'm not too worried about it though.

I warned them not to read any reviews or comments made about the movie. It's impossible to describe without ruining it.

Beaver Trilogy.
First, Olivia Newton Don goes to perform in high school talent show his best Olivia Newton John song cover and music video thing, then Sean Penn and Crispin Glover make tributes.

Ha. It's cool. Now you can watch your friends watch it. Might actually be the point.
Re: Movies that don't suck
a bit cliche, but The Shining is among my top 5. Partly because it scared the shit out of me at 11 years old, and partly for the black comedy you can only appreciate as an adult. I can watch it endlessly.

I was sick to my stomach during a certain point in the movie (don't want to say which so I don't ruin anything). Good movie though.
Re: Movies that don't suck
Just re-watched Snatch. Yep, THAT'S a pretty entertaining One Hour:45 mins.

Snatch is an all-time fave.
Looking forward to Kingsman.
We watched Kill the Messenger last night and I would recommend it.

I'm a simpleton and all and don't have the sophisticated palate others here seem to possess, but I could actually sit through and enjoyed The Grand Budapest Hotel. Funny at times, sad at others. Never slow or boring. And there was more to be seen the second time around. This, to me, is the sign of a very good movie. There are layers and lines that aren't always seen in the first viewing.

Saw Kinsgman two days ago at one of those new wide/curved screen Opera house theaters. Will not disappoint, it's quirky and not over the top...enough
