Source for kevlar hoses for Victor J-28?
Signal is finally getting a new torch. We have a J-28 on the way. I noticed Smith kevlar hoses on Cyberweld say they are only for Smith handles. But it looks like they are regular A/B ends (3/8, 9/16). It there something that makes these proprietary? Are there other options that I'm not seeing?
Thanks

You will like your new Victor J-28 handle. Smith Kevlar hoses work fine on the J-28. That is (one of) the set-up I use. I really like the flexibility of hand movement when using Kevlar hoses. The J-28 comes with "A" fitting check valves on the end of the handle and the Kevlar hoses fit right on to them. Keep in mind that Cyberweld sells the Kevlar hoses with an "A" fitting on one end and a "B" fitting on the other, however Smith also sells them with either 2 A or B fittings (in other words the same fitting on each end)l.

Thanks for the confirmation Doug,
I thought it odd that they would say for smith only.
We have been using the same 100fc victor copy handle for the past 6 years. It's been like having that itchy hair from a haircut stuck in your shirt collar.

Is it a Firepower 250 by chance?

I have both the Smiths and TM technologies hoses. I highly recommend the TM hoses over the Smiths. They are rubber covered and much tougher in actual use.
They are also cheaper and come with a set of adapters from A-B for 45 dollars....
TM Technologies - Gas Welding Hoses
It also is a great excuse to browse the TM site. Kent White is a real Master at metal working and I don't use that term lightly. Great stuff and info from that gent!
May I just add that we just had this discussion on the original frame list that is now hosted by Google. It just seems like replication to me and I don't see why every builder is not a member of this site, the original and MTBR list. Just makes sense. You can be a member of frame forum if you like.:cheesy:

Good points Dave, I agree.
The TM hoses work and last well.
Some of Kent White's metal smithing work is literally unbelievable.
And lastly, between the VS frame building forum, the Google list (originally Alex Wetmore's phred.org list) and MTBR you've pretty much got it all covered as far as gathering framebuilding knowledge goes I think.
Alistair.
