My Parents were in for the weekend this past weekend. Great to see them and spend time. One reason for them coming up was I surprised my Dad earlier this month by calling and telling him I was giving him a bike. After speaking with him about what he was looking for in a bike, it became incredibly apparent the Plus sized tires were right up his alley. Not too big, not too small. See, he gets out on lake shore lines and through rough fields in search of native american artifacts. My home town in Pa, and in the surrounding area is littered with farmers fields that were occupation sites. If you know what and where to look, you can come home with pockets filled full of percussion flakes and the occasional point and the rare perfect point as much of the spots are well hunted. Basically, he gets out and explores. A bike like a 29+ would really excel at this and I had a parts kit to match last years fat bike which was built around 5" fat tires and 29+ (which share the same overall diameter). He was pretty darn stoked when all was said and done. Super excited to have my Dad on a 44. For the record, this is the guy that originally wore the number 44, and hence why I chose that same number and what inspired the name "44 Bikes". Looking forward to hearing about all his new adventures aboard his 29+.
Here's some shots of the build. I have to be honest: this is one bad ass build... Paul. Thomson. Avid Ultimates. A mix of X0 and X9. 45North Helva Pedals. Wolftooth Drop Stop Chainring. Cane Creek. Jone's Loops.

UP ON THE 44HQ BLOG: Shimano XTR M9000 shake down and initial thoughts.
More to come once I've had more time riding this setup. But it's impressive stuff, let's just say that. Enjoy.
