Re: 2020 Political Chatter
Concerning politics, not ideology, and what's going to happen in this election per the Edsall column linked a few pages ago, I think there's a pretty strong case to be made that the incumbent is going to win. I thought until Covid that the Donald was going to sail to victory. Then, I wasn't sure whatsoever: would the pandemic would serve as enough of a referendum? Looked like the Ds had some daylight. Now... I am back to thinking the R's are going to win again. I really don't think the D's have digested the lessons of 2016, from either a policy standpoint, or a political standpoint. Remember reading a few weeks ago how Biden had zero ground game in Michigan?
Meanwhile, Nate Silver has admitted that nothing has fundamentally changed with his model from 2016: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...e-of-covid-19/
The finance quants are "pricing" this election differently, even if markets are looking for a Biden win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...ature=emb_logo
Meanwhile, the delta on voter reg. is an interesting angle, points to R victory: https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/jp...-biden-victory
And, if numeric wizardry isn't your thing, Trafalgar, the only pollster who called 2016 correctly maintains his survey methodology is more reliable because it is based on several pretty conservative (in the sense of moderate) judgments about human behavior when it comes to sussing out a reliable portrait of the electorate. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/...tcome-november
Based on these guys, I am back to thinking there could yet be tears come November.

"His supporters" would encompass anyone who votes for him, at least IMO. Leaving out the more controversial people, he mentions Sean Hannity and Amy Coney Barrett by name with an 's' on the end, so that would mean others who are similar. Regardless of your opinion of those two people it's hard for me to see what crimes that they have committed, let alone all those other similar individuals.
so absolutely nothing to say? how do you feel about the children of all of these so called republican people voting for Biden, being anti trump? you know more than they do?
what does your party stand for sir?
why are you still on this train? why do you think Trump is good for this at all? why do you think this current admin deserves to be here? what have they done for human sir? for citizens?
none of his supporters have a why? none of you. at least not one that stands up to scrutiny.

Perhaps suggest to the Floridian anti-socialists that they return their Social Security checks and reimburse Medicare before complaining too much...

I'll do that after I suggest that the issue with Castro wasn't his investment in social programs.

Start here:
Part One: Manufacturing the Carnage
Donald Trump is an autocratic nightmare wrapped in incompetence, made in the USA.
https://theintercept.com/2020/10/14/...uAdJG2BOaAli18
Random excerpt, this one from Noam Chomsky: On the domestic scene, Trump is very effectively managing both of his constituencies. There’s an authentic constituency of corporate power and private wealth and they’re being served magnificently by the executive orders, legislative programs that are being pushed through which represent the more savage wing of the traditional Republican policies — catering to private interests, private wealth, and dismissing the rest as irrelevant and easily disposed of.
At the same time, he’s managing to maintain the voting constituency by pretending, very effectively, to be the one person in the world who stands up for them against the hated elites. And this is quite an impressive con job. How long he can carry it off, I don’t know.
Re: 2020 Political Chatter
My experience is when you have two groups vying for power where one is concerned about democracy and the other concerned about staying in power, the one concerned wiht staying in power generally prevails... Call me a pessimist.

I'm making myself feel somewhat better by telling myself this dynamic has longer cycles than a single administration. So an administration engages in a bunch of noisy corruption while maintaining a quieter ideological occupation of influential organisms, then gets tossed for the corruption and leaves behind the occupiers. At least there's a chance we are not stuck with both over the long term.

Corruption is just one of the levers used to compromise people to support the power structure. It's like bribing the rich with tax cuts, contracts, loopholes, QE..... This is really about Power and who remains in control. Who gets to make what rules and decide on who wins and who loses.
It is not about corruption. Never was

We agree on this.
But ... for 45 ... maybe it is? Maybe he's reversing what makes sense to everyone else. Maybe he keeps the power men happy so he can keep executing his favorite little scams, such as sending Pence's entourage across a UK country to stay at his hotel.

Lying and corruption are so much a part of 45 that I believe he cannot tell where truth ends and lies begin. He's told the lies so often and for so long that he no longer recognizes truth. Even sadder, ~40% of the American public willfully accepts the lies and corruption. They find the "alternate facts" much easier to deal with than the cold, hard truth.
