I need to make a bottom bracket tower for a new cast iron surface plate I have just bought.
Does anyone have any drawings/advice or know where I can buy one from

Both Brignelli and Alex Meade make BB whipping posts. The tooling I have from both are good and do their jobs so I recommend either.
Posts are real simple. Usually round and lathe turned from solid shaft. Each end has a threaded hole for the securing onto the flat surface and holding the BB shell tight. Add the shell's top face cap/washer and a couple of bolts and you're done.
When I had mine made for me I asked that the post be case hardened then the ends ground flat/parallel. I had a retired machinist who still did odd jobs do mine. For me the critical dimensions were the clearances between the chain stay and the post's top, hence the beveled top edge. I also wanted a post that had a wide base.
Attached is the plans I gave the machinist, The actual post ended up with slight design aspect changes based on his suggestions. In 1991 it cost me about $250 and every time I use it I am so glad it is as big and sturdy as it is. What I didn't have done is a sleeve that slips into the shell and over the top bolt. In the years I've used my post without a sleeve I never found a lacking in function or results. Attached is also a photo of the post in action. Andy
Hi Anders, I sent you an email regarding a bb post. I have made several over the years and can knock one out for you, if you are still looking.
Dan,
I'd be interested in finding out some details if you're game.
Hi Tom sure I’ll drop you an email.
Hey Tom - sent an email to your ride-elysian address and it bounced back. What’s a good email for you? Or hit me up at ciclipolito (circle a) gee mail and i’ll give you the details on the post.
Oh! Thanks for letting me know. That should've forwarded and notified you of a my email update.
I'll see if I can get that straightened out.
In the meantime, an email is on the way.
