Kids at risk, build a garden
Some here may know I work in the Corrections end of teenagers...kids locked up.
Due to over crowding, money, current correctional thinking, most are here for serious
stuff...multiple felonies.
Inner city kids are not exposed to fresh food much, if at all. So we built a garden. Many
of these teens think tomatoes come from a tomato factory. We're working on that.
The idea is to build it, plant it, tend it, harvest and cook it.

Great work. Nuturing teaches compassion and compassion solves many, not all, personal problems.
Re: Kids at risk, build a garden
great therapy, great teaching. i really have suspected for some time that our moving away from the land contributes greatly to our fracturing society.

Working with at risk youth can be rewarding, or frustrating. Thanks to the Administration, the Harvest Kitchen Garden is a
perk. Be good, get to garden, dig in the dirt.
Full disclosure...I never had a green thumb. Talented folks guided me when I asked for help. I just listened. Good soil, compost,
water make us look good.
One note...the pictures show the girls working the garden. They really embraced the concept. Ask any day if they want to work
in the dirt, They all want to. The boys, meh.
