This is turning out to be a heck of a story. Will share it when the dust settles.
Re: automatic/mechanical watches on a budget.
what the? 161 postesses? i'll try to catsup this eve.
right now is the time i change watches. i used to swap them daily, but then realized that it'd be easier on the parts if i let the one i'm not wearing wind-down for a while instead of keeping both running all the time.
i'm on a monthly rotation...so each watch gets 6 mos. wear/tear per year...May is pepsi on red/blue band month.

I'm thinking about picking up a XW Tsunami once Jake gets the next batch of movements in.
Call it a modern 6309 if you will. 6309 case/dial/hands/etc but updated with a sapphire crystal and a unbranded 6R15 movement (basically a hacking/hand-winding 7S26) from the current Seiko Sumo's. With 300+ meters water resistance.

Gotta be careful - a SKX007J was my gateway drug. You'll love it, such a classic design, with legit pedigree and history. Still one of my faves. Wound up with a SKX009 too.
Re: automatic/mechanical watches on a budget.
Tsunami shipped today! Can't wait.
Re: automatic/mechanical watches on a budget.
That tsunami looks sweet.
I'm looking for a black/pvd field watch, but in an auto. Basically I want this watch again but not in quartz: Classic Field 72915 Wenger Swiss Watch
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to keep it below 42mm.

Jason, did you get the new timepiece? Neat watch, good for you.
I'd like to remind you that you were, at the time, nuts to sell me the Seiko 6306-7001 even if 1/2 the proceeds went to Japan disaster relief...you were nuts. Great watch and I'm wearing it alot. It is unbelievable to me that something so well made can be had for less than a stack of gold!
Re: automatic/mechanical watches on a budget.
Seikos are great 5' are not so great basically 3 rate movements that did not pass for being in higher priced watches are used. I had three all but the last got swapped out for one that "works" they hold time atrociously, take more action than is reasonable to keep them charged.
Seiko Kenitics are great and the 007& 009's are rock solid
this is a piece of garbage that should never had the name of Seiko on it this is the third and final one I am tempted to shoot it

Dood - full on straight-jacket nuts to get rid of that thing... It was a good cause though no!? Incoming piece is a homage to that unit. It's coming from Hong Kong, I should have it by the end of the week.
*fingers crossed!

May I ask what you base this on?
Where do you get the idea that the movements were 3rd rate?
Or that kenitics were such a great movement?
Do you work on them?
Or is this your idea from a small sample size?
Because I'm not sure I agree with any of the above statement.
Of course any watch/movement can be problematic.
