Impressive that you managed to get good focus on both birds.
I got lucky. This pair posed for over a minute and placed themselves relatively close together from a depth of field standpoint. I had plenty of time to wind the aperture knob down and perform the old focus and re-frame technique. Also the Nikkor lens with it's vibration reduction makes a hack like me a reasonable photographer.

Chrysalis opened but the butterfly didn't work out so well. There's a protozoa that causes this in Monarchs, but not sure if that affects black swallowtails as well. Could be any number of other things as well.
