Cabinets are getting there. This kitchen was 10x10 before with linoleum, formica countertops and a furniture piece serving as a pantry. The crappy HVAC and decades of kitchen grease had the white walls sweating a mysterious brown goo if it got hot/humid. What a difference a foot makes on the ceiling height, too! I can't wait to cook in here! Sorry for the sideways pics.

Well designed space. Now I have to see the monster range.
I could look at that counter top all night cooking something good. Well done!
We picked Granite today. It is amazing how resolute we are for ordinary folks. Walk into a warehouse with thousands of slabs and walk out 1 hrs. later firmly believing we found the right stuff.
How wrong could "absolute black" be?
Good grief it was fun. Now to pay the bill ;)
Countertops are in. It's a horrible picture, since the sun was starting to set and there aren't any lights yet.

Cabinets are up, bathroom tiled, and Granite ordered. Finally getting some progress. Bath should be done this week and Kitchen next. Then the move. Then I have about 50 wood windows to restore. Kinda fun for the first one, but we'll see how enthusiastic I am after number 40 or so. Then 50 wood storms to build and install....
This is totally NOT the norm to most people. However, 15 years ago when I married my lady she mad the microwave go and we've never had one since. Out kids have never known what it's like to have a microwave. We never have microwave meals (obviously) and all re-hated meals are done on the oven or the stove and honestly do taste way better. Probably too late, but the small side oven I use all the time when I am re-hating stuff and it saves on electricity.
Rehating? Making a comment on your wife's cooking? :blink1:
The new range has one of those speed ovens in it that is a convection oven, a microwave or some combination of both. My wife uses a microwave to heat up her coffee (since she insists on pouring cold milk in it), and my youngest one makes popcorn (bagged and fancy) all of the time. Other than those two use cases, our microwaves have mostly served as bread boxes.
Everything is GONE. Walls, cabinets everything is outta here. My guy just got back from a hardwood floor recycling business. You tell them the year your house was built and what wood was used and they matching it. We have a STACK of lovely recycled white oak waiting to get put down tomorrow. The recycled white oak looks like it was never sanded, good stuff.
Excited in Maryland....and now to pay the taxes ;)
BEFORE I have my fabricator poke a hole in the granite tell me if I really need an undersink water filter? I own a old everpure filter and tap that is perfectly serviceable with replacement cartridges (H-300) available. FWIIW we have really good tasting water and after all these years tap water has not killed me ;) At one time we used the filtered water and for the life of me can't rationalize why it mattered. One less hole in the granite or.....?
I am enjoying this thread tremendously.
We'll be living with this for a year or two before making any decision or changes:
