Any E30 experts on here? Can anyone tell me if the shell on an IX is the same (suspension pickups/towers, etc) as a 2wd model?

Mac struts up front so 100% gotta be the same, no? Rear obvi the same.
I've often thought an E30 325iX would be the bee's knees. But I'm not so sure. Never driven ones to compare, but I think the 328 would be the better car. Lighter, more power, and some lovely RWD throttle steer. The iX might be nice if you needed a snow going car, but you don't, unless you're moving.
OTOH, my dad sent me a craiglist post for a 944S2 for $7500 located in AZ. He'd be happy to check it out and drive it to AVL for you.
No, front subframe is 100% different, strut towers further forward, steering rack is behind cross member, the transmission tunnel is significantly wider, and the rear end has a viscous LSD.
The kid I sold my E30 to (1991 325ix) finally toasted the clutch today. He's looking to dump it (<$1000). He's been rough on it - damn car was just about perfect when I sold it to him 2 years ago (I'd spent a year rebuilding it). Anyway I kinda want another E30 to mess around with and a non-running car with a good shell is pretty much a perfect scenario for me since I'm in the poor-house. If the shell had been the same I'd of picked it up for sure, I'm still wondering if I could make a few dollars straight parting it. For example he put new Enkei's on it a few months ago and new Kumho's on it last week so that's gotta be worth a little.
Edit to above, I knew the suspension arms had unique geometry and that it had specific camber plates but that's about the extent of what I knew.
Ned I enjoyed my E30 IX, but a RWD is a better car for sure. I seem to recall it being about 400lbs heavier than the RWD car (same motor), and the IX understeered...badly. But it was a hellova winter car!
For all you automobile fans, here's one I just saw in the parking lot at Target in Virginia Beach. At least I thought it was clever..... Best minivan license plate ever. Probably a legit enthusiast.

I agree, but that supercharger is pricey...
These things never worked well, and there is the temptation to get a new ratco frame, disk brake upgrade, stiffer front hubs, rear cv axles, a nissan differential, 5 speed toyota transmission, fuel injection conversion, good parts crankshaft etc., and then you have a $18,000 used Miata that looks like Austin Powers would drive it.
I can only imagine how forced induction would compound the challenges that come with a British car of that vintage. Pretty car, do to it what it needs to minimize headaches. There is a nice one parked in a garage on my ride route that has a plate on it that says MNYPIT.
