Re: Winter Bicycles
I will- these frames should be headed in Monday.
In the meantime, here are a few of the 700c bikes I built in the last batch. Note- the fillets on these 650b's are next level, so I expect they to even be cleaner.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Loved the previous batch, looking forward to seeing the new one as well.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Beautiful work, Eric. Wow, what fine fillets!
A question, please-- I see what looks like a lone water bottle boss below the upper DT, not far from the shifter bosses. Is that a taillight wire port? Or...?
-
Re: Winter Bicycles
Yup- internally wired through to the BB shell, then it skips into the fender.
-
Re: Winter Bicycles
A little fender line porn. The front (inside chain stays) is not bolted up in this photo- it's even smoother in real life.

Re: Winter Bicycles
I have not been particularly pleased with the changes to flickr. While I'm not yet ready to jump ship, I have decided to investigate a few other options and see how they work for me.
Winter Bicycles has just joined the Instagram universe- still fledgling, but you can check it out here. I'll be adding photos straight from the shop.

I will be doing a radio chat tonight at 8 (Pacific). I'll post up a link when it's archived, but you can also listen live at Over the Top Radio.

Re: Winter Bicycles
With the nature of a remote clientele, I am not often around to see someones first impression of their new bike. This week I had two in state hand offs, which was priceless for me. I mean really, how cute is this?
This week it was happy faces!

The first frame (Flashbulb) picked up some love over at Prolly, while the second bike (Calypte) was featured on Cycle Exif and stahlrahmen-bikes, as well as my full web gallery.

I just wanted to give a general shout out to the folks willing to share here and in the FB section. I followed a few leads and am good on drop outs for a bit. Always appreciated- thanks, guys!

Re: Winter Bicycles
Between some vendor phone tag I had a chance to braze some of those into some stays- pretty excited to work on this one:

Alas, phone calls all landed and it put me back on track with my current mixte project. Here is a shot of the BB fillets just out of soak:

Re: Winter Bicycles
I had a little bit of down time while waiting for some fenders, and decided to get cracking on another Tool Series road bike. This one is built with some bigger pipes and is roughly a 52 ST/ 55 TT.

Once all the parts land it will be a demo in Portland area.

Helping out a pal...
Sometimes fancy cages get mangled (ie- broken) during international trips.
A little bit of rehab, and voila, ready to go back into service.

Re: Winter Bicycles
If you find yourself in Portland try to swing into Velo Cult to check out my latest Road Tool. This was one of the bikes I brought to the OHBS and is now available for test rides (or purchase if you don't want to wait for one). 55 ETT, and in addition to the Falz and CC 110, it is built with a mix of Force 22, FSA Energy and Velocity A23's.
Anthony Bareno from VC shot these for me:

Re: Winter Bicycles
Eric,
These Tool series bikes are dope, especially the hammered paint job.
If I was in a position to be ordering something new this year, these would be way up my short list.
I hope you sell a bunch of them.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Thanks- they are a lot of fun. Nice platform, solid builds. I enjoy making them.

Re: Winter Bicycles
It's been a good year for step through frames for me. I really enjoy building daily riders, and these city bikes really fill a need for their owners.
This one should be landing on Colorado in the next couple of days. La Fauvette is a modern city bike that draws from several traditions.
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2839/1...82984f9e_c.jpg
This bike was designed for a rider who needed to the fit of a classic Dutch bike, but wanted a design more capable of distance and sporting rides. She was drawn to French mixte styling and heavily British influenced coloring.
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3831/1...8e7f2d9d_c.jpg
“La Fauvette” is the French name for the garden warbler, a light and nimble song bird that makes is’t home across Europe.

More info and photos in it's web gallery.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Love that color combo Eric! Nice work with that cream head tube highlighting the HT Badge.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Tis the season for rando builds- one at paint, one at chrome, and one on the bench. More in the line, but we'll get to those!
Here is a multi radius bend- nice long rake, but in a different style then the "French flick".
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5548/1...f318ef4d_z.jpg
My eyes bugged out for a moment while brazing the BB. It was preheated and the brass was flowing, so I just let the muscle memory take over. Not bad, muscle memory, not bad.
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3790/1...a1a04ea4_z.jpg
Nice flow on this bike-

Re: Winter Bicycles
I don't do much repair work, but every now and again an interesting project turns up.
A local(ish) shop owner rolled in a bit ago with a Dave Moulton frame that had seen better days. Pretty classic roof rack to garage damage.
I had the paint stripped to better assess what I was looking at:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3773/1...e9b9c48c_c.jpg
The front end was pretty well a loss, but the back of the bike was serviceable. So, off comes the offender-
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2813/1...9c3acca1_c.jpg
Some clean up, some new tubes and fab, and a little TV cooking magic, and voila:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5491/1...c08015f5_c.jpg
And after a new set of cloths, it's ready to get back out there!

Re: Winter Bicycles
Lots of fun projects on the bench this week, including this fun stem project for a Taylor. The client sent me an old Taylor stem for visual reference, and his Look Ergo stem pre-set to the position he needs. Hard to argue with that!
Below is my take on a Taylor style stem to match his frame.

Re: Winter Bicycles
I have started in on another batch of Pelicans for a December delivery.

"Production batches" are an interesting thing in a one person shop. I am ganging operations, but in reality I am still doing every step by hand, one at a time. I just do a couple of them in a row before moving to the next step. In a batch of six bikes, for instance, there are 25 drilled holes per frame. That's 150 holes drilled and deburred.

Forks are brazed, BB shells and head tubes are prepped, and seat tubes are mitered, bossed and bindered.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7406/1...eb09c83e_z.jpg
Monday it's on to main tube mitering and a big push. Should be a busy (and exciting!) week.

Re: Winter Bicycles
It's official- I just sent in my deposit for the next Bespoked bicycle show. The show has been a pretty wild success, and this year is moving to a new venue- the Lee Valley Velodrome, London (Home of the London 2012 Olympic Track Cycling).
http://www.bespoked.cc/Resources/poster.jpeg
The show has treated me pretty well over the last few years- in 2012 my Wanderer frame set was awarded “Best Tour/ Randonee” (a category that didn't exist before the judging started).
http://www.winterbicycles.com/wp-con...ycles-7180.jpg
The 2013 show was also great, with a nod to my Tenga track bike being awarded "Best Track Bike".
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8524/8...110999de_b.jpg
I have one bike picked out to show with another open spot. I have a few ideas, but would love to use to opportunity to hand deliver a frame or bike to a UK or European client in attendance. If you are interested in discussing a project that would work in this timeline (the show is only a few months away), please be in touch.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Found this raw fillet under the flux- getting closer to the mythical no file*.
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2889/1...db17c8ab_z.jpg
Good wet out, nice feathering, and an even shape and width.
*The Box Dog Pelican bikes are no file, and have been a great push for me.

Re: Winter Bicycles
Eric, you're getting into masterland with those no-file fillets and your previously shown muscular memory experiments...
