grump alert:
i'm a longtime BMW fan, and have driven many many k's of miles in various iterations. all bought used, all had the inline-6 engine and three pedals. all RWD.
on a whim i took a peek at the BMW webpage to see the current offerings, what the hell is going on over there?
-apparently there is no more 3-series coupe
-you can NOT get a 3'er wagon with a manual
-the 1 series is gone
-the X1, which looks pretty utilitarian on the street at least is only available with a turbo-4 and again, NO manual option
-4-series cars? why did they do this? why didnt they keep the 3'er coupe alive instead?
thank god my little 3-coupe is still in great shape, looks like i'll be driving that for a lonnnng time.
The 4-series coupe and the 3-series coupe are identical. It's the same car with a new nomenclature. (And apparently Chinese people don't like the number four, because the word four sounds like the word death in Mandarin Chinese.
Likewise, the 1 is now the 2 although it's a new model. As BMWs always do, it's expanded. Might be the same size as your old 3. The X1 doesn't appeal to me but does come with a turbo 6 and is supposed to be a blast to drive. As to no manual, this is something you might just have to get over, if you want a selection of new cars. I chose lightly used for this reason.
Lately I've had the urge to get myself one of these. I don't need a million horsepower and these are fun to drive. I've heard a new model is arriving in 2015.... We'll see.
