Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
Home improvement: Now that all 3 kids are in college, “we” decided to do our master bedroom. Started by gutting everything: Horsehair plaster city, old loose insulation, nasty. Starting to put up drywall this weekend. Why the hell didn’t i just pay someone to do this? Oh yeah, back to first sentence: 3 kids in college. I haven’t been on my bike in weeks…but at least my wife is HAPPY. So that’s why this is Fridays thread, not thursday bitching.

Continuing the home improvement ...
Repainting the entire inside of the house, some plaster work, tiling the entryway - and neither my wife or I are doing any of it. Instead, we hired it out and it is awesome!!!
Believe me, after extensively redoing 4 other houses our self over the years, it is very rewarding to pay to have the work done so that we have time to do other things like ride a bike.

Late to the party but I found out my oldest son was accepted for an exchange student program and I just won a 3d printer in a contest.

can't believe there are no non-grumps today.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
A day late but very excited....
I submitted my graduate school applications today. More than 20 years out of school, I have been working since I finished my undergraduate degree and am not changing careers so many people think I am crazy for wanting to do it. I am a self-taught technologist and this has been something I have wanted to do since I graduated and realized my undergraduate degree (fine arts) was not going to really help with my career. At this point, I am doing in more for myself than my career but I am excited. Now I just need one of the schools to accept me into a program.

It's indeed Monday and I'm sick w/ no voice on a day I have a job interview; moreover, sick and voiceless in a week when I have two job interviews.
BUT: I have two job interviews, which does quite a bit for ye ol' self-confidence! And, it's not quite 10:30 AM and I'm drinking a cup of tea w/ a little bit of honey and a shot of Eagle Rare in there ... silver linings abound! Let's hope my tongue isn't too loose.

I missed posting Friday because, y'know, this:
Attachment 87913
Four solid days of moving; hosting our daughter, her boyfriend, and a schoolmate; plus Thanksgiving and hosting DC friends for (takeout) dinner (on paper plates) Saturday.
Very, very, very grateful and even a little giddy.

I was too busy being non-grumpy. Half day Friday at my new job (+) then a ride home past the rivalry game my alma mater was winning (++) followed by text-baiting my friend who cheers for the losing team (+++) then a weekend with a sunny cold ride, sunny cold dog walks with the kids, and a bit of sunny very cold helping Dad with his new house project.
Still feeling mighty lucky.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
commuting to work by bicycle is an amazing thing. It's such a little thing and it makes such a huge difference in my mood and energy level at work. It's 35 mins by bike or 30-45min by car. One I look forward to the other I dread. The Dutch have it figured out.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
I have every Friday off for the rest of the year. No riding because of the 16 hours of straight rain, but playing soccer at noon (indoors of course) and my 7 year old has a Futsal tournament all weekend (if the rain stops). Hooray Friday!

Friday is donut day. I lead the 0630 platform meeting and I always bring donuts on Friday. $7 brings happiness and future diabetes to everyone in the room.

I am in sweats, playing with my son (3 years old) and his buddy (4 years old) as our day care lady is on vacation. Nerf guns, cartoons, pancakes...I am not sure who is having more fun, me or them!

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
Company I've been with for 19 years (damn it, 3 years into it I said no way I'd be a lifer) was sold to a smaller market share competitor this week because our pres and owner were both of retirement age and had no succession plans. Meet & greet of new CEO was inspiring. I'm in an industry that's all ag, all day, and this guy lives it more than the rudderless Chicago crew we've endured for years. I've stayed with this so long because I work with great people. Now it seems I may get to work for great people. Already feels like family since many have left my old company in the past to work for the people that just bought us, but never had an employee come here from there -- so that gives me optimism that new ownership won't turn this into a clearing house.
Salaries, grandfathered vacation time, etc all assumed, no relocation -- so no change. The most drastic difference is my health care premiums dropped 45% and first $6K of HRA deductible is covered by the co. I can now direct that extra $450 monthly savings into a volatile retirement account. Or bike stuff.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
WFH three days a week, in Mon and Fri. So I'm in the office. Why the anti-grump? Well, a while back they moved in a new group behind me and these people are LOUD. I mean, LOUD conversations about drinking and LOUD conversations about the customer service call they just did and LOUD conversations about the paperwork they are processing. And LOUD conversations about what they're doing after work and LOUD sneezing (ha-choo with a OOOAAAHHH coda).
Why the anti grump?
I came in early and left a really big box of taffy by their mailboxes. For some reason they're really quiet this morning.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
Ive said it enough over time that the wife is now entertaining a home in the country, within half hour radius of her work. We are going to look at one we like tomorrow. Even if its not for us, Im happy that she sent it to me and is willing to look at homes outside of suburbia.
