From now on I'm going to make sure to say, "...even as a longtime reactionary...' in my political posts, so I can spew whatever I want without referring to either facts or logic.
And Saab? The Republic of Texas went bye-bye in 1846. No matter what those "Come and Take It" mudflap owners say.

I stand corrected. I thought it was possible that the official name included the term “Republic” in the same way Massachusetts is officially known as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A quick check confirms “Republic” is no longer part of the official name.

We should just ignore his (that is to say, Mr. Cash05458's) weekly broadcast, until at least he decides to put in some effort at actually putting in a bona fide dialogue. As of this post, he hasn't even logged on in the past three days. The pattern from the past few week goes: he makes a hand-wringing post, which elicits a reaction (I'm guilty here), but he doesn't respond and merely hibernates for a week. He then repeats the shtick the next week on basically the same theme on how too much power to Democrats would be a bad thing and then takes another sabbatical for about a week. Rinse, lather, repeat.

A year ago, when there was still such a thing as travel, I spent a morning in the Texas State History Museum. It was totally worthwhile to take a deep(ish) dive into the wild history of this big slice 'o' America.
Google "Come and Take It", and then pause to consider that this is something some Texans still appear to be damn proud of.

For us functional, reasonable, conservatives (who are also moderates on social issues), neither party is particularly appealing. Isn't that the way of the world? No one wants to read a few paragraphs, much less a 10-page treatise. Instead, it's all short slogans to grab attention but without much to explain substance.
The issue on my mind when I type the above is Brexit (I'm not a subject of HRM).
The following compiled by The Independent on how easy and facile it was all supposed to be.
Quote:
Michael Gove, 6 April 2016:
“The day after we vote to leave, we hold all the cards and we can choose the path we want.”
Michael Gove, 1 June 2016:
“We have four years more or less between now and date of next election. We can easily conclude a new settlement with EU in that period.”
Douglas Carswell, 8 June 2016:
“I think we could very easily get a better trade deal than we have at the moment.”
Nigel Farage, 20 September 2016:
“To me, Brexit's easy. We have back British passports, we have control of our fishing waters, and our companies are not subject to EU law through the single market.”
David Davis, 10 October 2016:
“There will be no downside to Brexit, only a considerable upside.”
Al Johnson, 3 November 2016:
“Brexit means Brexit and we’re going to make a Titanic success of it.”
Matthew Elliott, 27 March 2017:
“All the problems that you traditionally have with a trade negotiation aren't there.”
Al Johnson, 11 July 2017:
“There is no plan for no deal, because we’re going to get a great deal.”
No one's going to explain why Brexit (deal or no deal) would necessitate an a de facto border stretching across the Irish Sea, to separate Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, because not doing so would open even more can of worms. And to think, a sovereign nation state accepts a de facto across its constituent nations, all in the name of wresting control from those continental European bureaucrats. Irony has died.

I have yet to see a cogent argument by anyone on how conservatives / republicans are helping (or plan to help) America - the country, not the corporation.
Anybody out there hear them start a sentence with "Our plan for the future is...." that doesn't immediately devolve into "we must prevent radical socialism" or some other tired trove that says nothing about their true goals for the future?

Can't we sell Texas back to Mexicans or the French ?
I'm thinking $5,000 Euros. Emperor Macron would really be cool.
Re: 2020 Political Chatter
Mexico let white Americans freely populate Texas in order to create a buffer between themselves and the true Americans, the Comanche tribe. The Comanches kicked everyone's ass (including the French) until the whites destroyed the buffalo population, and along with superior firepower, "won" Texas and the west.
The Mexican plan didn't quite pan out...

How do you feel with a few people with the last name "Biden"? Like the son and the brother, and the President-to-be -liar who says like sergeant Shultz, "I know nothing"...?

Now that the election's finally over I can think of a few news channels and sites that are going to be "All Hunter, all the time," (although AOC and "The Squad" likely make a few appearances too).

I feel that if you have supported the Trump Crime Family then you have no standing to make this argument. Since you asked, I’ll tell you that I feel if Hunter committed a crime, he should be indicted, prosecuted, convicted and incarcerated. I feel the same way if your last name is “Clinton” or “Obama”. But I also feel that everyone knows who the real criminals are, even if they can’t bring themselves to admit it.

I just want everyone to held to the same standards. So far, the media and most members here seem to go radio silent when it's not "their" team.

What are you basing this on? Just because it hasn't come up in a bike forum yet? I've found coverage of Hunter Biden on MSNBC, CNN, Slate, Politico, Axios, and Washington Post (a ton of coverage here, actually). Vox had a couple articles, though with an admittedly left leaning take, which is expected for Vox. Huffington Post didn't seem to have much coverage, but that makes sense because who seriously considers Huffington Post as news.
If you need it to be said, I think Hunter Biden should be held accountable for any wrongdoing. Let's also be sure to hold Trump, his family, and his enablers to the same standard.

Stop pretending that there's a double standard. The investigation into Hunter Biden has been covered on every channel and news website. There just isn't any obvious or public knowledge of actual wrong doing yet. If he did do something wrong, by all means throw the book at him.
