Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)

Going on 3 weeks of being sick. This is the third time already this year I've been like this. That's more time sick than healthy in 2013. I think I may be allergic to my job.

Car shopping. What should be somewhat fun depending on what you're getting turns into a wrestling match because a) I usually know more about the car than the salesmen and b) the salesman are usually scum sucking liars. Went into a dealer, told him exactly what I wanted in the 2014 model. He told me there is absolutely no difference between the 2013 and the 2014; oh, you mean besides the new nav and the new, much improved transmission? Dick.

I get it, I worked in retail early on so I know the idea of SWAT (sell what's available today). But I never lied to people to make the sale.

Lying coal seam gas companies. I work for consultancy that does all the engineering and design for these low lifes. Makes me feel like a low life. The whole cluster fuck is the antithesis of what I believe in but my families needs mean I have to prostitute myself to these pricks. Fuck!

Just been offered an opportunity to interview for a job that would move me into mechatronics with time to go to uni. Problem is it's designing weapon systems and I just can't bring myself to do it. I know it would bug me forever.

Which brings me back to having to stay where I am for the time being because there is no design draftsman roles going round. Fuck!

On the counterpoint I'm in the form of my life with the state crit champs on Sunday and I'm going to kick butt. Ok, I'll drop and do 20 for that.

I had a list of things to post today, but my wife came back from Illinois last night, and my daughter had a recognition ceremony for her school's Honor Roll last night as well, so I've got nothing.

Every week there's a grump that drives me insane and I just want to respond and rip it apart, but I lack upper body strength for pushups. Off to pop an effitol and sleep til tomorrow.

Magic Johnson - I love/respect all sports/athletes though I really only follow cycling. I had a chance to hear this guy speak last year and it was great. As a die hard New Englander, his stories about Larry Bird really struck a chord. Then I got to meet him and shake his giant hand, I cracked a joke and his belly laugh seemed genuine. Good times, fun memory, good story! Recently I've read about his open support/unconditional love for his gay son. I applaud this, its admirable and exemplary.
My gripe: this shouldn't be a story, this should be the norm. Gay is normal as there have been gay people since there have been people, and still....today, its a story that an athlete/man/father, loves and supports his son. Its as sad as it is lovely.

A coworker of mine sent an email yesterday saying "The power is out at my house, going to work from home." If he was on my team, he'd be fired that day.

Why? If internet is unaffected and he has a generator (but wants to wait at home for the power co?) what's the problem? Unless you're coal miners and he needs to get in place on the seam.

Playing devils advocate here - but I've worked from home w/ the power out for 4 - 5 hours before. Used a 3G usb device and my laptop battery.

Maybe he was worried about looting.

dental insurance: you say you cover 80% of the cost of the filling, except you really only cover 80% up to $75. what fucking dentist charges only $75 to fill a cavity? so really, i'm paying $200+ out of pocket and you're chipping in $60. thanks dental insurance, so kind of you. can't wait to hear how much you'll pay for a crown...
