There you go.
My wife & I probably looked at close to 50 properties since late June. We went through a fact-finding phase where we'd look at anything, just to get a sense of the market. The next phase was hitting open houses for properties that met our high-level criteria. That ended abruptly last Saturday, when my wife looked at the 14-house schedule I'd drawn up and rolled her eyes: "Would we really have any interest in this place? Or in this one?" Soon the list was down to four or five. By Sunday afternoon we narrowed it to two. We spent Sunday and Monday (when we weren't in Rosh Hashanah services) crafting an offer for our first choice. And boom.
Good luck to you!

Thanks. We've been looking at houses online for a little while, and talking with a realtor about where we should be looking, what areas to avoid, etc. Now that she's got a job offer that she's stoked on, it's go time. Ideally we're moved in by Nov 1st.

That was last weekend, and it was NJ. A beer would be great though.
On the Acela coming back to DC from NY. Should get home before I would normally get home from the office on a regular workday. I'll take the little victories where I can get them.
Seeing still more old friends this weekend. Our social calendar in one month back in VA has been more crowded than any six months in Chicago.

For a change, my next consulting assignment will be far from terrorist areas, this time I'm getting paid for trekking in Nepal. In October, after the monsoons-

Tonight was one of the rare times I sit down in front of a tv. A full hour and a half commercial free airing of the NY Philharmonic opening gala, live!

BOOM. Found a house. Priced below budget! Should have a contract on it very, very soon. Today maybe.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
3 weeks from today we'll be waking up in our new house for the first time.
Mortgage cleared to close, all contingencies satisfied, and closing date is firm.

My brother finally got a job. Shouldn't be so hard for someone with a Ph.D. in computer science in Seattle, but age discrimination is real, I'm afraid.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
while shit started out poorly, the oldest boy (5th grade) has been recommended for advanced math, and the district's 'gifted and talented' programs. while i don't agree that it's the proper thing to do at this moment in time, it is good to see that he's doing well.
the youngest (3rd grade) should be in both, as well, but he's got discipline and anxiety issues. BUT the school gave him an "office job" to help him chill out and learn responsibility. we've had a bit of alone time together recently and he lights up like a christmas tree when talking about his 'job' and 'payday.' the school pays him "behavior bucks", which can be used to purchase small little things from the school office...little toys, little plants, etc. it's awesome.
their father has agreed that the youngest tends to do better with us, which is fucking HUGE. so for October, we will have him 3 weekends...basically, he'll spend an additional week with us, by himself, to see how it goes. Wifey and I have decided to stop taking him to the counselor he's seeing because...well, I won't go into details, but our definitions of professionalism and communication are different from hers.
after a year of shit, their schooling, and behaviors, seem to be turning around.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
My wife is out of town for the weekend visiting a friend which gives me free reign to skip all chores and have a bachelor weekend of bikes, beer, and Mario Kart. To kick it off, I'm stopping on my way home from work to visit a tattooer to schedule some time to finish my arm and to start planning this year's offseason addition.

Parents are in town (for a short trip, otherwise, it would be a grump).
Kids first soccer game of the season is Sunday.
My Firefly is celebrating it's 1 week birthday.
A few "side projects" are picking up steam.

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
It will be a good weekend. Going up to Gloucester tomorrow to cheer on my friends, drink beer, and eat greasy food. Sunday I get to attend a christening and ride my mountain bike.
Both events get me out of the house. But if you want to stop by, you're more than welcome: http://www.redfin.com/MA/Dorchester/...2/home/9063719
So it might even turn out to be great weekend. Just buy my house!

Re: Grumps can suck it, it's Friday!
My wine shop just sent me an email for 30% off mixed cases of wine.
The bonus, is that I ordered some wine earlier in the week and the prior order will now be 30% off.
Cheers.
