I am enjoying this thread enviously! I think we have finally found a contractor who speaks our language after a long search and hope to get going on our similar project soon.

No entrada permitted right now, since they are finishing the floors now. My wife snuck a picture through the back door.

Starting to see what it will look like ...
Floors get re-done in December when we are away.
Just a comment. These guys who lay floors are freaking animals.

I went into work early today so I could bail and receive shipment of the undercounter beverage fridge. It's a factory second Perlick (half price, with no noticeable defects) that's apparently made out of depleted uranium. My back is screaming now.

we'll remodel in about six months. this is the "feel" of what i'll be going for. while i love to be in the kitchen, i want it to look like a place where serious work is done, and to actually be a place where it can get done! while i'm no chef, i do really enjoy preparing food and cooking. i like everything about it, the planning, choosing, buying, preparing and cooking. i'm not much on the serving though: i'm ok, in fact it still makes the most sense to me, to serve right out of the pot. i've got to work on that.
Bking, that is quite a kitchen. You dig stainless and lots of stove top space eh?
I'm buying futures in barkeeper's friend looking at all that stainless.
i do like commercial looking equipment even in the home. i've got viking stuff now in stainless inside and i like it, but don't think i'll go with them when we remodel. some of the commercial equipment folks now have residential lines that are a bit more refined then their pure commercial, yet still put out higher heat and capacity in range tops, ovens etc. i built an outdoor kitchen, part of which you see hidden behind that old bike here: Attachment 86574, and i love the built in sink and drawers that are one piece and lift out for easy cleaning. so, bringing some of that indoors is what i hope to shoot for.
Low and behold there was light.
This morning we made full use of a Sharpie to sketch out the island and decided lights go here >>>>>
Getting closer! The appliances go in on Friday.

Countertops went on today. That section on the island, from front to back is 63".
Ovens, and cooktop go in tomorrow morning.
Fridge cooler drawer and dishwasher go in Friday (I hope).
Plumbers are installing the RO and filter system on Friday.
The top cabinets are made for TT. My wife is 5'1". I am still not sure what she was thinking with those.
Nice. I like your sink. My wife was dead set on a non-radiused single basin sink, so we compromised and got a non-radiused single basin sink.
Getting close to useable ......
Appliances are in! Exclamation point for me, because I'm excited. Sorry for the orientation on some of these.
Obligatory sink shot.

Damn
The kitchen in our new house is great but we are already finding little annoyances that we can either address piecemeal or in one fell swoop many years from now.
Must not let my wife see your kitchen.
When we were house shopping, I wanted a place with a good kitchen. Everything we saw had either really old outdated kitchens or kitchens that were too new to justify changing, but that didn't really match our tastes. So glad we bought a place with a crummy kitchen and got to do exactly what we wanted. It's worth it. Don't piecemeal it especially if this is a long time home.
Winmonster, is that a counter depth fridge? Everyone we looked at was a big sacrifice in space but that one looks pretty good. I confess though, it's mighty convenient shoving a pizza box in the fridge when there are leftovers.
It is counter depth. If it was the the only fridge, it probably wouldn't have worked well. We have the beverage fridge and the old full size one in the basement. This one will be primarily fresh food storage. With completely separate compressors and good ventilation it will supposedly stretch the shelf life of its contents. I will miss the convenience of just shoving a pizza box in, though.
On the bad side, I've now had time to notice that the installers' mistakes. The range is sitting out from the wall about an inch and a half when it should be flush. The top right corner of the fridge isn't flush, and a trim piece is already pulling away from the cabinet by the dishwasher. They also managed to split the cabinet under the sink by the dishwasher. I'm not thrilled with the install, especially with that last point. Hopefully they are able to make everything right this week.
Appliances are all sorted out with no real scars to show for it. Happy customer.
The backsplash is kind of a longer, skinnier, textured version of subway tile.

Cabinet day. Woo Hoo.
We won't be ready for T-Day however I'm pretty happy about this.
Looking good! We are *so close* to being done. We move back in on Tuesday.
A few more pics.
Granite take off measurements happen Monday and install one week later.
Did I mention that all counters are raised an extra 1.5 inches? Boo-Yah.
STOKED!!!!
We are "sort of finished" , moving back in to the kitchen.
Trim work to be finished and floors will be done over Christmas break while we are away. All in all I like it. I really like the sink, 1 side big and DEEP. the double wall ovens are really nice and the Proof function is really nice.
The cooler drawer is good for keeping beverages cold.
Painting the furniture is proving to be a pain, I have a spray booth set up in the garage. Two chairs and a table yet to go.
I really like all the LED lighting that got put in.
Looks amazing TMB. Agreed, LED 5" cans are the business.
Anyone look at induction cook tops?
Experiences?
We put one in during our kitchen reno this summer. Love it! One downside is if you need to replace a lot of your pans to obtain adequate conduction. Gas wasn't an option for us. Honestly, can't imagine the speed of heat and ability to moderate it being any better. Plus there is no heat loss like gas or waiting for the burner to heat up or change it's temp. Simmering things for long periods of time is mindless now. Would do it again.

We considered it when we renovated last year. Took us about 15 minutes to do the math on the extra cost of the range and inconvenience of replacing existing cookware to decide the new traditional electric ranges are just fine for us. We spent that extra money on nicer lighting and dishwasher - things we use more than the cook top. We picked this oven instead. I'm testing the dual/split function on Thursday for the first time: Sears.com
OMGawd gaslines are done. Plumber is outta here. Next tue. granite is installed, already planning my first kitchen extravaganza.
Carry on, just had to get it out.
FWIIW Man I've got a good plumber. You don't have to ask, he just "does" everything right.
Best cooktop I've ever used. Higher high and lower low than gas (excluding serious BTU wok burners, I keep a separate gas wok burner outside), instant response. Half my existing stainless pans were magnetic so I barely needed to replace much. The UI on mine sucks, lots of long presses, try before you buy.
