Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Along the theme of airlines - Today we encountered some delays out of MSP on my commute. A customer engaged me to ask about everything. I gave my usual advice, which is, "When possible, fly early and fly direct". He said he got the cheapest tickets available.
There must be a dozen or more daily direct flights out of MSP on the route he was taking. Lost me at 'cheapest'.
Of course, this thick headed airline employee has three first names (none hyphenated though), so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I missed a Wade Patton sighting four days ago.

An inconvenient truth:
Bora Ultras with Veloflex Vlaanderen tubs don't clear ZeroG calipers on an OG Skeletor...
File under "VSalon Problems" ...

That's a proper grump.
Here's another. I went to a fancy party at a swanky store tonight and the hors d'oeuvres didn't fill me up. I'm hungry.

This reminds me of a saying I made up "Sushi bars and Strip bars... you spend a lot of money and alway leave hungry" ... in before the lock

Nice to hear you're staying productive in your recent "retirement". FYI, since you have the time, Lionel may need some help with the colorway on the stickers of his newest thinking of rig...

A kid - all of 24, Tanzanian, came to America for an education- was murdered but isn't dead yet (his body is still hanging on, though the rest of him is gone). Senseless doesn't even begin to describe this crime. This one got to me. His father lands at DIA tomorrow. It's about him, not me; but damn, this shit ain't easy.

my brother and i finally tried to have the conversation with our dad..
dad, we're confused. you raised us with a set of values that we are grateful for, and a character we are respected for. what made you point at a man with such opposing values, and say he is an appropriate representative of our country and its citizens, and by extension, you?
boys, i have a right to vote for whomever i want, i will not be berated or persecuted for it, we should be putting family first, and i will not talk about politics.
dad, this is not a matter of politics; it's not fiscal policy. we're not berating or persecuting, we're asking a difficult question so that we can make sure we have the facts and accurate context to appropriately process a family member's actions. this is disrespecting women, bashing immigrants, rejecting people in a lower economic class because of their net worth, lying, hypocrisy... it's an inability for us to reconcile what we understood you to stand for with the action you've taken in acknowledging him as a representative, and it is causing us a great deal of distress and confusion. but you're going to tout your right to not communicate with us about where your head is at while saying family comes first?
...
my brother just wants his coming daughter to have a grandpa who will be the role model we knew him to be.

7pm EST Wednesday night conference calls are my 1am UTC Thursday morning grumps.
Those grumps have permeated their way into the afternoon and will remain until I can get home and locate the couch.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
I'm at work doing the equivalent of helping people dig my grave. When they hit a rock with their shovel and don't know what to do I say "OK, give me that pickax, I'll break up that rock for you."
All you can do is keep your reputation. Maybe my recovery will be that somebody will get that I know what the hell I am doing technically and I'll do what it takes within the formal model even if it is no good for me personally.

Well said. Good luck.

People who make full volume, outdoor voice speaker phone calls and FaceTime or Skype calls in crowded gate areas in airports make me Grumpy. And people who ask me what route I fly make me grin.
First world good grumps, but seriously don't make your private phone calls public. Nobody really wants to hear that your 3-year old had a big boy poopy this morning.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Pretty sure I saw a lady commuting this morning with her cycling shorts over her sweatpants.
If so, this grump is for her.

Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
For the heck of it (and being "time" for a new bike) I decided to look into getting my first disc frameset (I'm a total disc newb): QR or TA, 12mm or 15mm, 1.0 or 1.5 pitch thread, 26", 650b or 700c, 135, 142, 148, ISO, post or flat, blah, blah, blah..................
You know what? I think my current bike is just fine. (The last sentence should probably go in tomorrow's Grumps can Suck it thread)

I hear you, but the flip side of this from a frequent flying victim, err, customer... on a layover in a major international airport with shitty WiFi with the only signal near the gate so I'm competing with the loudspeaker announcements in at least 2 languages and yelling into my laptop on a critical skype call with a client or business partner who's annoyed at his delayed lunch time in a time zone 9 hours away with less than an hour for us to connect, make nicey nice vapid preliminary small talk after he figures out his damn mute was on so we can get to a fucking decision in less than 5 minutes that ends up being the same solution I suggested several months ago that he never responded to and now its all obvious and why didn't I get started earlier? Oh and during the call I missed the announcement for the gate change for my flight that's now in another terminal, which means I need to go through security again and the plane is boarding in 5 minutes, so, panic running with laptop out of the case to save time getting to the gate. And the cultural transition from Air France to United for the second leg home is brutal.

I hear ya....
My recommendation is to always check the board and even before that check the airline's app. The apps often have more current information than the boards or even the gate agents. This is my personal experience.

The coming generation has it much worse than we (I) did. This is terrible news.
