Never hurts to hit the biggies like Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, there's a Crockett and Jones, Ralph Lauren, Brooks.
I'm not super versed in ultra high end footwear for men, though.
Tons of places will have alden/quoddy, etc.
Well, I made the rounds in NYC, mostly in the Madison Ave area, was not able to get to SoHo or the Village, I guess that is where some of the nicer boutiques are located, anyway, I'm pretty focused on a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers, just learned that they make a few of the colors in a EE width. Since I use an orthotic in my shoes I need the extra width, so they might work out...Thanks for the suggestions.

Russell Moccasin, out of Berlin WI, are well worth checking out for all kinds of boots and shoes. Mine are most comfortable.
I just bought a pair of Frye Rogan Alpine boots. Pretty nice and so far seem very comfortable
bought a pair of redwing steeltoes for work.
I took a gamble on some boots that didn't look too great in the picture but turned out looking great.
http://www.canadianfootwear.com/img/...618ebeae93.jpg
They are listed as a 5" roofing boot without steel toe. Small Canadian company that makes generic crappy looking work boots has them made in Mexico. The picture shoes a version that must have the steel toe as mine don't look like that.
$109CAD for a goodyear welted boot not made in China. I need to take a picture of them on my feet as they look way better. My girl even like them says they look great with dark jeans and a nice shirt. I think she is stoked I am not wearing my old beat to crap Blundstones any more.

They said it wouldn't work, but I just had my old beat to crap Blundstones successfully re-soled. They were the last of the Made-in-Australia boots, so I figured I owed them another chance before throwing in the trash. Hit "like" if anyone wants photos and contact info.
Soles on my Blundstones held up fine.
The leather on the toes has been destroyed. But in fairness I've beat on them.
Not sure how the leather on these were treated from the factory, they had a sheen to them when I got them and any scratches just seemed to remove that outer sheen and no matter what I treated them with the scratches would show. After that point I started not caring and used them as work boots. Worn them to shingle the roof on our house, that really really put a beating on the toes with shredding the leather.
Who else wers Austrailian boots?
What are the brand to get? I see Blundstone, Rossi, Redback-
For a US brand (but I don't think made in US) the Danner Workman looks a lot like Blundstone:

I wear the hell outta my blunnies.
First, cue the dirge and break out the single malt. Farewell, Australian Made. Your Hecho in Thailand cousins just aren't the same.

And here are the re-soled boots, ready for another 5 years of adventurous travel and yard work.

After having a pair of Vasque Sundowners destroyed by a mail order cobbler, I wasn't expecting much. But these guys did a great job:

Can anyone recommend boots like the Beans Engineer? They seem to be out of season and out of stock for a long time (and they keep bumping the date out).
The Bean boots are knockoff Red Wing Iron Rangers.

Chippewa makes 'em. Here is their classics collection.
I stuck between the Wolverine 1000 Mile boot and the Red Wing Beckman Boot, who has either boot and what do you think?
Thanks,
Quattro
Don't own either, but have tried on both. Assume you are talking about the 1000M that is similar to the Beckman.
The Beckman is narrower, and the part on the side where the two pieces of leather join really cut into my foot. I'd buy the beckman if it came in an E, but it doesn't. I do tend to be a D in most things though. The 1000M were true to size and width, but I went with some Aldens instead. Said Aldens fell apart. YMMV.
The Beckmans are useless unless you're a true B or C width. I had them in black cherry and had to sell them on.
The Wolverines are better constructed too.
Danner has their Mountain Lights from the Stumptown collection in the Breakroom now for almost half off. Even the ones with the Christy sole.
Does anyone know if Bean still makes an uninsulated, pull-on version of their Bean Boots?
http://img1.etsystatic.com/001/0/661...90417_la2x.jpg
They have an insulated version on their website, but no uninsulated ones. Is the lack of an uninsulated model just a seasonal thing that will change soon, or are the uninsulated ones unavailable now?
I have the Chippewas and have used them for 7 years. I love the boots. The only issue was a heel that started to lift off the sole. I pulled both heels off, cleaned with Acetone and reglued with Barge cement. Now they're good for another 7 years.
Buy a half size smaller than your normal size unless you wear really thick socks.
i've wanted the llbean engineer boots for 4 years now. always been a little too spendy for me. also, price has gone up 1/3 since then, about $60, inflation whoa!
seem to be perpetually backordered.
stien: something like the redwing style 2126 or 952 on this page? Work Boots and Shoes - Shoe Finder - Red Wing Shoes
Forgive me if this been brought up before:

Limmers: I have a pair that is at least 30 years old. They are beautiful. You don't need a toe cap. This shop is a gem.
Mine after about 6 years of use. They'll likely outlast me.

I have Beckmans. Never tried the Wolverine's. Don't really see how you can go wrong if they fit. Just did some end of winter cleaning tonight - plenty of saddle soap. Tomorrow they'll get Sno Seal around the welting, light mink oil everywhere else, polish, and then get semi put away until October.
Edit - just noticed that the Wolverine's don't have rubber on the ball of the foot, significantly undermining their claim to being a boot IMHO.
Edit again - is that just a Nordstrom's thing?
You sure? Not being sarcastic, I switched from bomber boots to leather hiking boots with no toe cap and I'll be god damned if they don't get scuffed and let water in when hiking in the snow. I never had this problem with my old boots.
One hour in the snow and that scuff is dark with water. Sure you treat them with oil and wax, but two hours in the snow and corn snow will wear that seal right off.

Now I did just switch from Sno Seal to Huberds Shoe Grease and that is better.

limmers.
Joe, I saw these this weekend and thought of you. Maybe not exactly what you had in mind, but probably better than nothing.

KG's boot guard
RedWing (and others) also sell a glue on plastic toe cap (see above).
Wow, Christian, I found it to be the opposite. As a true B width, the Beckmans were way too wide for me. I bought the 6 inch 952, same boot I wore years ago, for when I'm inside and don't want the lugged sole - great book at a nice price. They also come in an 8 inch version. I like the 899 a lot too, and wear it when I want the heavier, lugged sole. But man, I really wanted those Beckmans!

Sno-Seal is no good for smooth-out boots, as you've found out for yourself. I've always liked the various offerings from Pecards. You will only get your smooth-out boots to be highly water-repellent, not wateproof.
Pecard Leather Care
Hey, can anybody use a pair of made-in-England classic 8 eye black Doc Martens 1460s? They're a US 9.5 (maybe a 9.25), slightly small for me. I cant be bothered to list them on Styleforum or eBay, but if anyone wants them, LMK. Worn once outside, maybe. As new, basically. Free to someone who could use them.
