Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Is it Thursday yet? Trainer time has cratered. From 12 hours a week to 3. I failed to go this morning because I'm lazy and stupid, thinking that I'm WFH, I can grab time this afternoon. Yeah, right. This afternoon I'm on a call because a third party installed buggy firewall patches and all the month end stuff going to them is transmitting at about 1/50th of normal pace and they're frantically trying to patch over the patches. This should be interesting.

Addendum. This just hit my inbox for an early meeting Monday with Audit.
Agenda,
TBD
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Me: Please reschedule your Skype meeting to next week, myself and another engineer are on backshift this week and won't be here at 10am.
Staff: Just call in from home, it won't take more than an hour.
Me: I sleep during the day because I have to be back in the late afternoon.
Staff: Everyone makes sacrifices.
Me: Enjoy your meeting. I'd tell him to enjoy a bag of dicks, but I'd like to keep this job another year.
I'm the guy who has to execute his project, he'll figure it out.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Too early in the day for this!
Project Manager sends email - please provide your estimate for hours in the month of February. Due today.
I reply - Is there a project plan with the items we are going to accomplish this month? I need to know how much I'll be active on this.
Project Manager replies. No, there's no plan yet nor have we settled on the architecture.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
I am not a PM but after many years of managing IT projects I decided to study for my PMP because many employers will pay more if I have it in my role as Technology Director.
I am sorry to hear your PMs are giving you a hard time but I can now identify these as examples of poor "Human Resources Management", poor "Project Schedule Management", and poor "Project Scope Management".
Hope your days get better.

Just put on a suit that I haven't worn in a few months and the pants are tight.

The fabric likely shrunk due to very dry winter air.

I wish I could get excited about disc brakes.

The weather is not looking good around here for the next 6 weeks according to Phil...

Talk about crimes against humanity...

I hope they file a civil lawsuit and garnish his wages for the rest of his miserable and pitiful life. If not jail, make him pay financially for his crimes for the rest of his life.

I say drown the rat and get a new one that will give us a better weather prediction.

Hmm, it's been very rainy here. I think I am getting fat.

I am the PM on backshift this week. A staff guy called a meeting without looking at the project schedule to see who is available.

Already Friday afternoon here, but since it's still Thursday where most of you are...
After almost 9 weeks, my car is F-I-N-A-L-L-Y fixed following my accident in early December. The grump? It's in 'safety mode' until it can get to a Volvo dealer to be reset - that can't happen until NEXT Friday! FFS...

It's only Tuesday here now, but I'm too pissed off not to post...
The Volvo reprogramming visit highlighted that the passenger seatbelt pre-tensioner also needs replacing. That also needs to come over from Sweden, and most likely on the water. I'm probably not going to get my car back for another 8 weeks.
I've owned the car 17wks tomorrow. It was only in my possession for the first 6 of those weeks!
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Friday around 1 I got a call from wifey...she was crying. like, the bad cry. where you're like "fuck."
"my dad's in the hospital...he was having trouble breathing and swallowing...couldn't talk. they thought it was his diabetes, but it's not (he's Type 1)."
No one wants that call. Immediate thought is stroke, but given the time, I was hoping it was an allergic reaction.
Around 7, her mom calls. It's a tumor. Frontal lobe. Fuck. He's transferred to Baylor Medical in Dallas on Sunday. He's back to feeling good. More CT scans and MRIs...after waiting 2 days. Apparently it's CT Scan and MRI Season.
The texts coming through the pipeline are positive. Last major update was yesterday before wifey left for Dallas - 1.5hr procedure, in and out, transferred back home in as little as 24hrs. Incredible.
The reality isn't quite that polly positive...not bad, but hopes and sun flowers have become facing the facts of removing a tumor from the frontal lobe. He goes back in 25mins.
