The good old days.
My last couple of years in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander I was making around 121K with all the extra pay for being deployed. With my workload, I was making $18.61 an hour. When I was a lower rank doing the same work, it was around $10/hour. I think I was in the Navy for 3 years before I passed minimum wage.

Gotta make it happen. I'm off Mon-Wednesday this coming week! Tuesday night ride?
Shoot me an e-mail and we'll try to make a bike selection!

You know what sucks about this bike Mike made me? It's lighter and faster than all my other bikes, and it's the only thing I want to ride now. It makes my Atlanta feels so sluggish and heavy and over-built. The Fuji?? Yeah right.. Thanks Mike, I love it!!

Had to descend parts of Skyline at, I dunno, 10, 12, 14 (?) mph -- couldn't tell for the damn fog -- this morning. Visibility is about 5 feet at 5:30 am in Oakland hills these days. Yeah, that's it, fog and tree rain are chapping my ass.

I was in Appleton for two days in June. All day conferences, team building dinners in the evening, the exact opposite of riding a bike. I get asked all the time if I want to transfer to Neenah in 2018 (when The Boy graduates HS), but I'll be 53 by then and don't know if I want to adjust to another climate, especially that one. It is nice in the summer, all 5-6 weeks of it.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
I have ridden 3 times in 4 weeks, I think.

I remember the trip and your schedule.
Two words for you: fat bike fat bike fat bike (ok, that was six but I had more than one link to share)
Spring and fall are amazing, and when you get into winter sports (xc skiing, snowshoes, those words above) you miss it when the other seasons roll around. . Well, mostly....

Still haven't had surgery yet. Plan is to correct that early tomorrow morning. Which means I have to wake up at the ass crack of dawn.

Been sweating my butt off in the upper Midwest since about April and I only missed a handful of possible road riding days due to winter weather after moving in on February 8 of this year. It's not nearly as bad as people think and it can be way hotter in July and August than most people imagine possible. I expect to be riding road bikes until at least the end of November up here in the Twin Cities.

Since being laid off in spring, I have been taking everyone's Saturdays.
Consider this a belated 'thanks'
And just to be clear: I am thoroughly enjoying the time even if my wife worries...

I've started my carbo-loading, don't worry.

I have been told to be at the airport 2 hours early for a 2.5 hour flight to Atlantic City.

You might want to sprinkle a little something extra on those carbs. Georgia's got some hills to tackle.
Re: What's chapping my @ss today?
Spent my Thursday reviewing my brain and spine MRI report and it's littered with comments like:
"substantial ventral epidural CSF collection"
"large dural defect"
"Arachnoid cyst"
"evidence of chronic hemorrhage"
Good news is the neurologist will try to "squeeze me in" in a few weeks. I'll be pounding xanax until then.
